Having got my system, (Technomate 1000d, Triax 88 dish, Blue line LNB) up and running I have spent hours finding all sorts of programms on lots of satellites. Whilst on Astra I found I have a good signal from Eutelsat W3 7*E, Now as Astra is 23.2*E how come I am getting Eutelsat? I have a single LNB so is it a reflection? if it is its a strong one. Geoff |

Theres 4 sets of Astra's for starters Astra 1 at 19E, Astra 2 at 28E, and Astra 3 at 23E plus the C-band Astra 4 at 37W.
The answer is simple. You havent picked up 7E (unless you have confirmed pictures of channels on 7E) - the same frequencies are reused around the satellite arc on various satellites. So whilst you have your dish pointing at one satellite if you tune your receiver to other satellite locations its easy to get fooled by an apparent signal from somwewhere way round the arc.

The same frequencies are used on different satellites, so if the dish is pointing at 28.2E and you scan 7E you will see a channels which tells you it is on 7E but it is actually on 28.2E.
If you have a fixed dish, the receiver does not know where it is pointing and only assumes it is where you say it is.

There are Astra satellites at 28.2E (Astra 2A, 2B and 2D), 23.5E (Astra 1D and 3A), 19.2E (Astra 1E, 1F, 1G, 1H, 1KR and 2C) and 2E (Astra 1C).
There won't be a reflection as such. You'll only receive transmissions from one orbital location (+- a couple of degrees max on a smallish dish) as the dish is hyper-directional. Transponder definitions are duplicated across satellites however, so you'll find that the actual channels you are receiving are from a single location. Check the details of the transponder in question and look it up on lyngsat to see what I mean. STICK {Sorry, Jim beat me too it }

Oh boy, sorry guys. I'm really not with it today. I've got a real good case of the flu, and I really should step away from the keyboard

I found that out while I was playing last weekend. Got really excited cos I had a strong signal on one of the weaker satellites so I scanned it and made myself a brew etc when I came back the actual channels I had found were 19E. I always double check now. If you go to the satellite set up part and change the satellite you will notice there are sometimes 3 satellites all giving a strong signal even though you know the lnb can only pick up 1 at a time.

Hello jointydog, thats just what I did!
I also found that if I did a scan of the "other" sat, any channels that were common to the desired sat (frequency etc) would show poor signal on the desired sat! So I had to go and delete them from the "phantom"sat. Then all was OK. No revelance but how do all those shopping channels make a living? I dont even look at them let alone think of buying anything, but someone must do? Geoff |
