The Government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it.
The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect a NIP with your monthly bill. If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/ These ****ers have to be told where to get off.

I'll buy a second, identical car, declare it SORN, swap the plates and carry on driving. I haven't been stopped by the Old Bill in over ten years. At that rate, the fines will be way less than the tax. If that's a load of crap, I'll find some other way around it.
It's not so much the tax I mind, (although those figures are complete madness) it's the tracking. I believe it's my right to move around this country without being tracked, and I'll do everything in my power to ensure that I continue to enjoy that freedom. If that means breaking the law, then I'll just add it to the long list of other laws I break every day of my life. It won't come to that, because this proposal will never make it to the statute books.

I'll certainly sign any petition - It's a disgrace and no business of the government where I drive. Anyway, you would think we don't pay anything already - road tax, fuel tax, tax on the motor insurance, parking charges - rabnt over.

When will politicians get it into their thick heads that the wheel has already been invented.
Fuel duty does all the penalising necessary with the minimum of administration. If you have a gas guzzler then you pay more, if you drive more, you pay more. And, we dont need any more little boxxes or more computing or more thick civil servants who say its someone else's fault when it goes wrong. Road pricing and tracking systems are only a means of logging where everyone is. Stop the world please - I want to get off.

Yes, I couldn't agree more Jim - which just goes to prove that it's nothing to do with collecting fair taxes.
I look at my kids sometimes and worry about what kind of world they'll be living in as adults. I really worry.

Here's another really sneaky one - when the Inland Revenue send you a bill for tax, it's 2 days in the post before it arrives. If you send a cheque, that's also 2 days in the post before it gets to them. Now, if you follow my drift, the Inland Revenue then charge you interest on their demand from the day and time that they generated the demand for tax until they receive your cheque, so even if you phone them the day you receive their demand, the price has gone up!! - Bet you all didn't know that!!!

Well, the petition closed yesterday, amongst a swirl of publicity and national media coverage.
The closing petition tally? A staggering 1,795,494 signatures. The response from the Government? An incredible put down in my opinion. Here's the 'I'm not listening' love letter from Tony: Quote:

I've just had my "Sincerely, Tony Blair" e-mail. Imagine using those two words in the same letter!! But I think they've been surprised by the level of feeling and about time too. What they don't say is that the level of congestion has been artificially created by our authorities by narrowing otherwise wide highways down to one lane and closing streets galore so that they can now bleat "congestion" and find a way to penalise us to justify all their weird schemes.
