Default Problems with MTI Blueline Pro lnb

Heres a good one for you

Has anyone ever heard of an lnb taking over control of a DISEqC switch :?

After spending all day setting up 4 dishes (wiring, alignment etc) i thought i had finished and settled down to watch TPS. After flicking through the sats i discovered once i had selected the MTI blueline @ 16e the switch would not release to another lnb when requested to do so by the receiver. This resulted in no signal from any of the lnbs apart from the MTI Blueline.

After checking all the wiring for loose strands, installing a new run of cable just to check, and putting the firmware back to standard on the receiver i came to the conclusion that the MTI was the fault. >

I changed it for one of my spare Amstar Neosat lnbs and bingo everything works fine again. I am still getting the same signal quality and strength only this time the lnb allows the switch to release to another lnb.

I now have 2 confirmed knackered MTI blueline Supremes and 1 MTI blueline pro which doesn't want to share the DISEqC switch with any other lnbs.

You get funnies like that sometimes. Use the seemingly iffy Blue-Line on another dish, and/or another switch port. You should be able to find a port it will work on.

Tried that Stick. It doesn't matter what port its on it still does the same. Tried all four

Also tried the 8 way switch aswell and that wouldn't get it to work either. I'm not going to throw it away i will save it for another dish.

I found that some LNBs have an internal short between the inner and outer coax connections. Most don't, but one (or two?) of my Invacom's do. I asked around the forums, but never got a proper answer other than 'If it works, who cares?'

It might be worth testing to see which of your LNBs show a short and which don't. At least that might answer the 'why'.

Then again, this might be another of my famous red herrings

OK without sounding thick here (Other than the really broad black country accent )

How does one test to see if there's a short :?

Got a test meter?

A very useful tool. Stick it on next year's Christmas list!

Alternatively, use the cheapo battery method...

Ive found Cambridge lnb's to be a bit iffy at times. They work fine with the Echostar 3000 but when I started using a Fortec Star and a Coship with them they wouldnt tune above 11700MHz. Change over to a different brand and everything is fine again....

Were you expecting it, or did it just arrive unannounced? :?

Did your good lady wife sanction it's procurement, or did you just 'lose' it in the Christmas purchases? 8)
