Default Can i get bbc and itv channels in Austria (vienna) with a sky system?

Hi everyone, My parents have moved out to Austria near Vienna which is on the east of the country, they are missing UK tv, meaning bbc1, bbc2,itv1, and channel4 mainly, they are not interested in a sky subscription, but just want the standard uk channels to watch.
is this possible if they got a 150cm dish and a skybox with freeview card (that would be registerd in my uk address)?

I look forward to any replies.

Martin

Hi martin, welcome to the forum,

Firstly, all BBC & ITV channels are completely in the clear - you dont need cards for them.

According to this :

http://www.astra2d.com/austria.htm

it appears 1.8m is struggling in Vienna and you are really looking at around 2.4m

We should point out that Astra 2D signal strengths nosedive as you go eastward through Austria and southwards into Italy There are a few hotspots where reception is possible on smaller than expected dishes, but there are also coldspots where reception is worse than expected. You really need to take local advice - we can only give advice based on what we know from sites such as astra2d.com

Yes, good advice from Analoguesat.

Aside from the dish-size issue, the logic of using a 'Freesat' card (to get the channels you're after) abroad using a UK registered address and exporting the Sky digibox and card is sound.

I'm just out of Vienna, and I've tried with a 1.10m dish and there is no way to pick up the Astra2D but i do pick up the ASTRA 2A south beam that has the BBCi feeds.
The EuroBird 1 (28.5E) is do-able and there are a few FTA stations on the EuroBird.
goodluck, I've been without English language programmes for the last 15 odd years some I'm more than happy to have what i have...

goodluck
