Default Technomate 1000D - Super, or Not?

Hi all,

I've picked up a technomate 1000D from eBay; it was advertised as super, and on the box the one shown says "super" in the lower right corner (can post picture if that helps); but on the actual model inside the box, it doesn't say "super" anywhere.

Does this matter? What's the difference? Can I tell by looking at it whether it's a super or not (or are all new ones "super" versions)? :?

Thanks, as always, for the help (and I'm sure to need more over the next few days as I try to get this kit up and running)!

Rob H.

[EDIT] Rob would like to make it clear that despite his eBay seller offering to resolve an issue of misrepresentation regarding the exact model of receiver he purchased, this support failed to materialise. Rob would encourage viewers of this thread to read the latter posts also, to gain a full appreciation of the level of support (or lack of) provided.[/EDIT]

Kick off a blind scan of Hotbird before you go to bed.

If it's finished by the morning, it's a Super!

Seriously, that's the only way I know how to tell the difference. The Super should do it in (guessing here) a couple of hours.

All the new ones should be 'Super' as far as I'm aware.

I have the 1500 Super and if my memory serves me right it does a blind scan of Hotbird in <30Min's

I'm sure I read a post on here somewhere saying that the 'Non super' version took 13 hours for the same scan

Where as my TM1500 CI+ took 9.5 hours to do a blind scan of Eutelsat W2, thus proving its not a super one

Other than that little Fo-Par i still think its an excellent receiver

As stick said unfortunately its the only way to find out for definate.

Oh, geez, you guys are way ahead of me!!

First, it's gonna be a fixed setup on 19e, but it's not up yet, so once I've got the dish up and everything else sorted (also not done yet), then I'll be able to point it at something and scan I've asked because it's an eBay buy, and if I'm going to complain (you said "super" it ain't "super" and so give me some money back), I need to do it relatively quickly. I've since noticed something funny in that the box has the number "TMS-1000 D"; that could be the TM with an "s" for super. And I did some looking and saw the TMS advertised as the new "super" 1000 D, so that seems good, too. So what makes it funny (in a funny weird not a funny ha ha sort of way) is that "TMS-1000 D" isn't even listed on the technomate web site (though that's what's on the manual that came with it, and also on the front of the unit itself). Also, the one on the Technomate Website that's listed in the "What Satellite" review is the TM-1000 D, not the TMS-1000 D. Hmm . . .

In any event, I plan to scan only every once in awhile, not really that often, so this might not matter (other than that I paid for a super and I'm not happy if I paid for something I didn't get). It probably won't affect my viewing; I'm not looking for feeds, really, I'm just hoping to watch some German TV  So let's hope I can get there in the next few days and sort everything out!

I'm going to try to get this thing (Gibertini 60cm dish) up sometime over the next couple of days, weather permitting, and when I do I'll update my original request for info on equipment from back awhile ago!

Thanks again for all your help, everyone, as always!

Rob H

The 'S' in 'TMS' may stand for 'sensitive', I'm sure that's what I've read on another forum :?

It just means that it has a more sensitive tuner than the standard or Super TM but still suffers with slow blind scan AFAIK

hi kev, when this first came out the supper tm.myself & another guy thought this could be added to the older version.we came 2 this thought(technomate would not give the supper 2 the old tm as sales would go down on this receiver)to me this makes sence as 2 why.as for tuners on weak signels,i have a friend & the tuners are the same(1 is not better than the other the only difference is the blind scan speed,1 takes ages the other is quick by compaison.the vantage receiver is much quicker then the supper on blind scan, also it has a very good tuner by sumsung.

Hi Kev,

Thanks, it looks like you're right; I did a few more googles and got a satellite sales site that lists it that way with a good description (it's the site that's really hard to use 'cause there's so much text, different colours, not very user friendly; sorry, I didn't bookmark it, but I think people here have ordered from there). Anyway, they've got good descriptions, and it looks like this is the "sensitive" one, which might be good, as I thought I had figured out that a particular tree wouldn't be an issue, and now as I go to get setup, think again that it might.

Anyway, I need to re-look at this auction and more; they may have sold it as a super, so I might be asking for some money back (which is too bad; they made me a really good deal on the dish, the receiver, wire, etc., with highly reduced shipping). We'll see, don't want to be an a**, so if it works, and as it seems they sell at about the same price, I'll probably just leave it alone. :?

Thanks again for the pointer, it helped me find more info with google.

Best,

Rob H.

Yes, 'S' is for sensitive, not Super.

I think you'll find that once the Super came out, there were no more non-Supers made (although there was obviously a fair amount of old stock lying about). I'm sure that the TMS range didn't come out 'till well after that, so you should be OK.

I regard the Super as just a blind-scan bug fix release.
