Tiscali, the owner of DSL TV service Homechoice, today confirmed that a trial of a new Tiscali TV service has started in London.
Upon acquiring Homechoice back in August, Tiscali indicated that it planned a wider rollout of television services to better position the company as a player in the triple-play marketplace. At the time, Tiscali Group CEO Tommaso Pompei said that triple play services would be launched in the UK "by the end of the year," and the London-based trial appears to be the first step in that rollout process. The Tiscali TV service has been made available to "selected customers" connected to 32 telephone exchanges in London. It offers 80 linear TV and video on demand channels and 6,000 hours of on-demand content including a "catch-up TV" service from the BBC. Today's announcement comes less than a month after it emerged that the Italy-based Tiscali is considering selling its UK operations, although it today indicated that plans for a full rollout of Tiscali TV during 2007 were in place.
