Doh! Wish I'd thought of that (should have done)! ops: It looks pretty much exactly like the ones there, and those dishes don't say a thing on them anywhere. The reason I questioned it was mainly that it was cheaper than the one you'd found for me (this is the seller who had those Gibertini dishes, for £22 + £10 shipping - and I got everything from him with only £15 for shipping total), but I found the same exact thing for £17 plus £10 shipping and couldn't tell the difference (so I bought the cheaper one). Thought it might have been too good to be true, but looks like it was a good deal.

Definitely no joy today but tomorrow's weather is predicted as decent and without rain, especially the afternoon, so we'll fire up the hammer drill and give it a go.

Wish me luck and thanks again for all the help!

Rob

Hi RobH
You might find this logo on your Gibby dish.
Photo 1 is of the "U" bracket from the motor to the dish.
Photo 2 is of the dish backplate.
THis is the first Gibby dish of many that I have installed that has had a logo on it.

Thanks, blackhawk, I'll look, but I'm pretty comfortable with the purchase now (though I'll be more comfortable once I have it up and running, hopefully tomorrow!!).

Thanks again,

Rob

Heh, done (with the hardware installation, at least)

Before I go on, let me say, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I wouldn't have ever tried this without your collective support and advice. I would have hired someone, and they would have charged me a lot, and I wouldn't have learned a darned thing. Now I've learned stuff, it was kind of fun, and I saved some money. Thanks again!

Okay, so here's how it went. Got decent weather today; went up the ladder, started drilling; darn that's slow work! My drill is variable speed, so I didn't have nanochicken's problems; it did take awhile, though, balancing there, putting pressure on the drill to keep it drilling. I used to do concrete removal and concrete "work" with diamond tip saws and drills. Now I know why we didn't use these things!

Anyway, took some breaks (my muscles are used to typing, not pressing while balancing). Holes drilled. Installed bracket, checking it was level. It was (well, sort of). Brought rig up (everything was already all together and tightened except the actual mount, which was tightened somewhat but not so much that it wouldn't slip on over the mounting bracket.

Slid it on. Pointed it where google earth said I should be pointing it (corner of the house down the street). Ran the wiring (including the meter). Plugged in the receiver to power, cable and scart, turned it on -- GERMAN TV appeared!!! Yay!

So, it seems to be working. Had one more "issue"; when I tightened up the dish, I played with the meter, came in, and had no signal. But the signal was SO strong on the meter. Hmm. Turns out I had turned it to 28.2. Oops. ops: Reset it over the neighbor's house, and all is good.

I'm now having box issues; tons of channels (and I mean TONS) from the lyngsat list (free stuff) aren't coming in at all. Transponders are missing, all sorts of things. I haven't applied the patch yet, but I doubt that's the problem. I start a blind scan, but in fifteen minutes it said it had only progressed 5%, and i wanted to play around some more. I tried to add a transponder myself, and I got a weak signal, but nothing when I scanned. I couldn't figure out how to find the "symbol rate" (not on the lyngsat list anywhere). >

Other thing is that my TV only has one scart in; so, I'm going to try to run the cable box into the vcr scart on the technomate, but I'm not sure that will work. If not, guess I'll need to buy a scart switcher. Hm. :?

Anyway, I'll play around some more, and try a new scan (maybe even a patch), but in the meantime, and as always, suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

Thanks again for all the help!

Rob

Hi Rob - well done

You may find this site easier to use instead:

http://www.flysat.com/satlist.php

The symbol rates on Lyngsat are in the 6th column over from the left.

Setting the box up can be tedious the first time on the "big" sats like 13E, but stick at it and you will get it sorted eventually - once you have it all set up it doesnt need doing again unless you do a factory reset.

There may be a channel editor on the Technomate site somewhere which might speed things up.

Fantastic

I've never put a dish up and aligned it where I thought a satellite should be and had a picture straight away!

Well done. A very tidy-looking installation. Probably better than the pro's would have done.

Make sure you slap some grease over everything (esp. threads) and waterproof the F connector before you put the ladders away.

Routing your cable box through the Techno's VCR SCART should work. I route my Sky digibox through my Dreambox VCR SCART OK.

I'd have some fun with the FTA stuff before you leap into patching. Make sure everything's working OK and spin through the manual.

That way, you'll appreciate what's different in the patched version of the firmware, and still be able to return it under warranty if you find a problem.

Rob - Ive nabbed the channel editor and the official loader from the Technomate site - they are in the Utilities/FAQ section here on the forum.

Be advised IF the flash procedure goes wrong when you apply the patch there a chance you could wreck the receiver. Its unlikely but it does happen occasionally - mainly if the power gets interrupted during the flash......

Thanks Analoguesat, I appreciate it; I'll have a look, but I'll take Stick's advice and play around with FTA before I mess too much (as this is a flash, is it an "add-on" or new firmware? Just curious what I'm getting myself into).

That said, there is no symbol rate listed on either lyngsat or flysat for this transponder/frequency pairing (it's freq. 13322 on tp 9, it's "H"). What's up with that? I'll probably do a blind scan tonight and see what I come up with. The thing has a very sparse radio side, as well, so I'm just guessing they didn't put very much in. I'll mess about and see what comes up.

And Stick, I'll get the ladder out again tomorrow and do some greasing; the LNB has a sleeve that comes down over the F connector, but I'll still grease it up. I'll try to go through the vcr scart, too, and see what happens!

Thanks again, you guys have all been great.

Best,

Rob

13332 is too high a frequency. I think you mean 11332.

That being true, the reason it doesn't have a Symbol Rate is because it's an analogue transponder/channel. SR only applies to digital, and that's all your receiver can handle anyway

I meant also to say that the patch isn't an add-on - it's a complete replacement of the firmware.

It's basically a copy of the original firmware that's been re-engineered, and is then loaded over the top.
