Well at last.....I am one of those guys that have a foreign wife...Czech actually.

I am trying to get some TV for her....when I lived over there I made a big thing about getting SKY, which I managed to do with just the standard equiptment (mini dish and digi-box). I guess now we are in the UK I should try to do the same for her.

I dont have any special equipment (although I could be persuaded), where should I start??

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Theres some fta Czech on 19E

http://www.flysat.com/astra19.php

Although most of the interesting stuff is scrambled in Cryptoworks in the UPC channel package.

Any 60-80cm dish will give you these channels.

Theres also the Czechlink package on 23.5E

Although being on Astra 3A they need a big dish in the UK.

Heres the full list of satellites carrying Czech channels.

Ah. I sometimes forget folks wont always recognise some of the abbreviations

19E is the Astra 1 satellite cluster.

Have a look at this webpage:

http://www.flysat.com/satlist.php

Astra 1's are parked at 19E
Astra 2's are 28E (where your sky dish points)
Hotbirds are 13E

etc.

Roughly speaking this means that the Astra 1 satellites are 19 degrees east of due south. Thats not exact and it varies from place to place but its near enough in the UK.

Ah Great,

I did think this might be the meaning... but good to have it clarified.

So if I understand correctly, with my current set up there won't be anything available (no supprise there).

What kind of money should I be budgeting for in order to get a system that can cover all of the czech channels, should I buy here in the UK, or should I do as I did out there and buy a local system with subscription for the pay to view channels and bring it over here?

Your advice is much appreciated.

Rgds, Duncan.

You are probably best sourcing the card from friends / family in Czech Republic, although you will need to do some research as to the best suppliers.

The easiest package to receive in the UK will be UPC http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/upcdirect.html

You can give your wife some channels in the meantime by putting a dish up pointing at 19E and connecting a digital receiver - you would get Ocko (Music) CZ24 (news?) CT 24 (news?) and Top TV (music / shopping?)

Travel Channel UK also seems to carry a Cz soundtrack

If you want to use a uk reseller for UPC instead of a Czech based company heres one - but you will pay more for the service:

http://www.digitalsales.co.uk/upc_cards.htm

As the site says you will need a receiver with either a Cryptoworks cam or embedded cryptoworks in it.

Please note we do not recommend any companies - this is just one that sells it that Ive found using google - its up to you to satisfy yourself of the reputation of the company before you part with money!

Hi

I am wondering about picking up the Czech channels as well. I have noticed that the majority are also available on the digi tv package on Intersat 10-02 spot 3. Could anyone please inform me whether they can pick this satellite up in the UK and what sort of dish would be required by stansted airport. I have looked on Lygsat and there seems to coverage on the footprint but I am a novice so do not really understand what it means in terms of availablity and dish size. http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/i1002_spot3.html

I would appreciate anyones knowledge / experiences.

I've watched Digi TV (Nagravision 2) in Brighton on a Triax TD88.

I've just checked the reception on 12723 H for example, and I'm getting 60% signal strength, which for my Skystar is reasonable, and nowhere near marginal.

So yes, a dish of this size is OK except possibly in torrential rain - where I am.

Much of the audio is either Hungarian or Romanian on this package. Some Czech and English.
