No no, a challenge is something I'm not quite ready for yet. So I think that Techno box will suit me just fine. Just had a quote from one place for £200 to install it all for me, (Then the receiver (1500) 90cm dish, cable etc etc all for £190 too) and I think I would like to have that done first as I've never seen one before and I'd want it on the roof if possible (Unless people don't recommend it)

Am I being ripped off? Unless anyone here is in Leicestershire that either does this kinda stuff of knows a reputable place.

The dish can go anywhere where it has clear line of sight onto the desired satellite(s) Ive got one of mine sitting on an old car tyre up against the fence Its personal preference really. DO NOT allow the installer to try and put a 90cm dish on a chimney - something that big needs solid brickwork and solid anchors into a sturdy wall.

Install it on a chimney, get a good gale and the off axis loading from the dish means you end up with a chance of cuddling up to a couple of tons of brickwork in your bed one winters night! Not good - and it has been known to happen.

Thank goodnedd I don't have a chimmney. I'll have a look how my normal aerial is mounted tomorrow, but I think my roof is like split level and it's screwed onto a bracket which is on a bit of wall between the split levels if that makes any sense. The reason I ask is that i live in a block of three houses. Me in the middle. Neighbour on one side has no dish but neighbour otherside has a dish and it virtually points 90 degrees off the side wall so I'm not sure how it'd work for me with a motorised dish, but no doubt the installer should be able to answer those questions.

Ok, now, where's that credit card

Dan, I got the "Pro's" in to fit my system, I had already bought a TM1500CI+ super and found a company who supplied & fitted T&K Brackets & 2" Steel mounting Pole(approx. £25), TM2100A Motor (approx. £30), Triax TD88 dish (approx. £35), LNB (approx. £10),Coax cable/wall clips/v-bolts etc (approx £15?)

All the above prices are guesstimates, they charged me a total of £205, so if my "guesstimates" are accurate then they took around £90 to fit the system. (On the wall, not on the roof.)

Thanks for that Fergis, I'll do some phoning up tomorrow then as £200 seems a bit steep considering the package I'll be buying for around £190 contains all the cable/brackets etc.

On another note, what Technomate should I be looking at if I want to patch it and load keys onto it. I've looked at the specs of the 1000 D and 1500 and can't see any noticible differences except for a card reader which will I ever use?

If there is any possiblilty you might want premiership football or a foreign tv subscription get the 1500. If you are happy with a basic fta receiver get the 1000. Ive got a 1000 and its a capable receiver - does what it says on the tin so to speak. I dont patch mine though - its in the bedroom for the fta channels on Sky

I've been reading the forums, and the 1000 seems to be fine (As long as I get the "Super" one) Is the Darkman patch the best one/only one around?

£200 does seem steep. Can you post a photo or two of your house, or a sketch with some compass bearings scribbled on?

By the way, I should just say that this 'embedded MultiCAM' thing is really misleading, and I wish sellers would stop using that term.

All it means is that the software inside (the firmware) is able to decode pay-TV of a certain type. 'Patched' firmware expands that capability to numerous types, and also includes the ability to insert the numerical 'keys' to unlock those encryptions.

There's no additional hardware in there, unlike an external CAM
