I don't have a lot of expertise to help with your specific questions, Mara, having only just done my first (and possibly only, no need for more) house mounted dish installation. That said, what I do have to offer is that if you decide to have a go yourself and save the installation fee, the people on this website will be there to help you every step of the way. They were invaluable to me, and without them I would have had to hire someone to do it.
You can do this yourself, especially a garden installation that doesn't involve mounting (getting up to the right spot and drilling the hard brick on my house were the hardest parts for me, and these are two things you'll avoid entirely). If you at all are inclined to DIY, give it a go. You'll not find nicer, more helpful people than the ones you've found here for advice on equipment and installation. That's my two pence! Rob

It all depends on how much you want to spend on an lnb
![]() I have heard that Invacom Lnbs are supposed to be very good although you will pay top dollar for them. ![]() Cheaper lnbs that are worth looking at are the likes of MTI bluelines. They seem to grab more signal than some of the other ones i have used in the same price bracket. ![]() I do like to try different lnbs out everytime i add another dish or lnb to my system so it will probably be an Inverto Silverline lnb that i will try next as i have heard quite good reports about them ![]()

Thanks, so a C120 Invacom 0.3db Universal or MTI 0.3db Single Blueline with a Gibertini 1.2m (or 1.5m) dish seems to be my shopping list. On the web site I am looking at,there is also a "MTI Blue Line 0.6dB LNB", why would I choose 0.6dB versus 0.3dB?
Also, anyone know where to get a good ground stand to mount it in the garden? I feel I'm getting there. : ![]() Thanks. |

The noise figures are more or less meaningless. They are figures from one specific frequency in laboratory conditions. Find a brand that performs well for you then stick with it
![]() Anything 0.6db or under will be fine if you are chasingstrong signals off the main sat clusters. Only if you are after every last drop of signal under fringe area reception conditions do you need to buy the ultra expensive ones.

One thing that I don't think has been mentioned. If you go for the Channelmaster and maybe some others, the lnb really needs a feedhorn to make best use of the dish.
The feedhorn can be either a separate 20 mm mounting or a lnb with built in feedhorn. I think the Channelmaster comes with a 20 mm mounting bracket as standard. Most other dishes come with a 40 mm mounting bracket. I am sure someone else will confirm if I am wrong.

If you are going to go for the C120 LNB, make sure you also get the Gibertini feedhorn. If you don't, you may as well go for the cheaper 40mm LNB with integrated feedhorn.
