Don't care if I have to get back to factory reset image. This has caused me so much pain all help is appreciated.Yours hopefully |

DHCP is part of the communications protocol:
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol You only want one item on the network doing the dhcp allocations. If you have a router in the sytem its probably that in charge, but it could also be pc. Untick the DHCP box in the communications setup in the menu system on the DB and the message should go away. On a 7020 its in menu / 6 / expert.

Analoguesat I can't even boot to a menu nothing on tv screen. Don't have router only pc.
Does the loading up 0f the Firmware / Image process need an internet connection. Or just the information of the IP address. I have connected the crossover cable to the Dreambox and directly to the PC and serial cable. At this stage I have taken off the ethernet connection for the LAN (internet) which is also an ethernet connection(I only have one ethernet port on the PC). Is this were I am going wrong??? |

You're using Universal Dreamup?
If so, which version? Do you have ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) running on your PC? If so, turn it off temporarily. Can you FTP into your box? Telnet? With the Ethernet crossover cable connected, can you ping it? Does any of this mean anything to you? If not - don't panic. Just try and answer the best you can.

The 7020 manual gives an example for the remote IP (box) 10.0.0.97 can I use this?
It further suggests that the IP address is not that important if you are using a crossover patchable to connect but it must match the chosen subnetmask which after checking ipconfig/all is 255.255.255.0 So am I right in saying that it is ok to put this in the local IP (pc). |

What is the IP address of your PC?
Is it 192.168.1.1? If so, your Dreambox could be set to 192.168.1.10 (or anything in the last set of four numbers from 2 to 255). You won't be easily able to reset this on the Dreambox for the moment, so don't worry. To turn off ICS, go to your Network Connections in Windows (assuming XP here...) and right click your Internet connection. Hit properties, and then the 'advanced' tab. Untick 'allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection' in the Internet Connection Sharing section and save it. Reboot your PC. HTH

Hi Dezzy, great fun this networking isn't it.
![]() First disconnect the lan cable from the dreambox. When you loaded the flash image into the dreambox, did you do a flash erase, (factory reset) as you rebooted. It is essential. Hold the up button as it reboots until you see the message in the LCD window. Dont rely on the Dreamup software to do it, it doesn't always work. That may be the reason why it wont boot. I suggest you do that now even if you did before. Press the three buttons at the same time to start a reboot, then hold the up button on the box until you see the message. Then let it reboot. To find out your pc Ip address, open a dos prompt window and type 'ipconfig /all' without the ' '. You will see a lot of info among which is the address of your PC. Something like 192.168.0.1. The last two numbers may be different but will probably be 1.1 or 0.1. Make a note of them for future reference. Once you have managed to boot your DB, set the IP to 192.168.whatever the 3rd number is in PC. 4th number of PC plus a bit. the bit is not important as long as it is more than the PC and less than 255. The other thing you queried, 'telnet' is an instruction to connect to the dreambox from the pc. You open a dos prompt window and type 'telnet 192.168.0.10' again without the ' '. You cant actually do that until you know the Dreambox IP which you will set after you have booted the dreambox. Enjoy yourself. ![]()

Thank you BGonaSTICK and Jimdefruit
Please stick with me through this guys I'm starting to fret a little ![]() Some information for you to help me OS = XP IP = 192.168.1.3 dhcp server 192.168.1.1 dns server 192.168.1.1 sub net mask 255.255.255.0 BGonaSTICK "To turn off ICS, go to your Network Connections in Windows (assuming XP here...) and right click your Internet connection. Hit properties, and then the 'advanced' tab. Untick 'allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection' in the Internet Connection Sharing section and save it. Reboot your PC." In the local area connections properties/ advanced there is a box called internet connection firewall. Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the internet is this the box? It is the only box and it is unticked? Out of curiosity while I was there I ran the network wizard. I now believe I dont' have a network set up on my PC yet I simply connect directly to the internet. Should I set this up and is this part or all of the problem with the dreambox not rebooting? I have done the factory reset three buttons and flash erase and still I have ***stop*** dhcp Can't go no further ![]() |
