Default Considering Technomate 1500 - advice please

Hi,

My first day on this site, seems real friendly :

I already have an 80cm dish with Disecq (spelling?) but maybe not USALS (whatever that is?). I used to have it connected to a satellite card in my PC but became frustrated with problems of softcams / keycodes etc.

But my friend has encouraged me to get back into the scene with a Technomate receiver so I will buy one from ebay, the 1500 CI+.

It would really help me to have a quick update on available satellites, channels, encryption systems etc. My main objective is to see premiereship footie and any available movies.

Thanks in advance,
Drat

If you want Premiership the best thing to dio is subscribe to ART which transmits on 13E. ART lost the rights for next season, but MAY have some games on subleased from Showtime Arabia (We are awaiting definite info one way or the other)

There isnt a great deal open at the moment. TPS is intermittent and needs a bin file loading daily. SRG Switzerland isnt very exciting but has half a dozen channels Polsat and D+ come and go every couple of weeks.

Hi dratsab ,
currently using the Technomate 1500 you can get the Premiere package 19.2E, TPS 13E, SRG 13E, and D+ 19E, on/off when keys are public, you can also get a number of Biss channels, on various satellites.
Updating the Technomate is relatively easy using a null modem cable and your computer, and there is plenty of support for the 1000 series.
In this hobby, what's available changes quickly, but for the price you can't get a much better receiver than the Technomate, but in future you might want to motorise your dish, for the most viewing options.
Best wishes

:welc2: dratsab!

USALS is an automated positioning system for a motorised dish, sometimes referred to as DiSEqC 1.3. It won't do anything for your fixed dish

Mini-DiSEqC will do two LNBs and DiSEqC 1.0 and 1.1 will do four. DiSEqC 1.2 is the basic motor standard, but still very powerful. DiSEqC 2.0 allows the kit at the other end of the coax (LNBs, motors etc.) to talk back to the receiver, and DiSEqC 2.1 allows up to 64 LNBs. The last two are not normally implemented on domestic equipment (yet).

The PCI cards can get a bit fiddly. Very frustrating when they won't do what you want >

You should find the Techno a little easier, although there is still a bit of a learning curve. We'll help you all we can though

I think we're doing pretty well for channels at the moment. Premiere is one of my favourite packages, and D+ has been open a lot the last few days.

Could all be black tomorrow though. Just a chance you take unless you buy an ART card or similar.

Stick,

Not to hijack the thread, but is D+ currently open? I'm not getting that; guess I need a new set of keys?

Thanks all

Just to be clear, my dish is motorised! Not sure if me saying it isn't USAL caused the confusion? I thought Disecq was the motor part and USAL was something else, perhaps it is USAL after all?

Anyway, my receiver has been ordered and I hope to have it by the weekend so expect me back here farily soon

LOL, sorry m8 - my fault.

Yes, if you have a modern motor, it probably is USALS.

USALS is pretty cool. You set up properly on your due-south satellite, and feed the receiver information on your latitude and longitude. It then works out exactly where all the other satellite are on the arc and stores their positions for you.

In reality, you can usually squeeze a little more signal out of each sat by positioning the dish manually with DiSEqC 1.2, but it's a good starting point.

Good luck with your setup, and hopefully we'll chat again soon

I am also considering a Technomate 1500 (and also would like prem footie amongst other things) but do not really understand about cams etc. I see the Technomate for sale with ads stating that no additional CAMs are required as it has a multicrypt decoder etc. If this were the case why would people need CAMs.

In what circumstance would I have to purchase an additional CAM with the Technomate 1500?

with the technomate 1500 you dont need cards or cams, there is very
good support for these receivers and when they are patched they open
all that you can open with the dragon/t-rex cam, there is only one cam
at the moment opening a provider that the technomate is'nt.
this is my take on it, a cas 3 programmer and a cam will cost more than
a tm1500 to buy and at the moment wont give you any more to view.
my advice is go for the tm1500 with a motorised system and the only
other expense will be about £5 for a null modem cable to program the
receiver, and there is plenty of soccer on premiere and d+ on astra 19e
and on tps on hotbird 13e,you can if you wish also get a sub card for
art and digialb and get more that way.
