Dezzy - since I set my websites up Ive been helping beginners get set up since early 2001. Theres literally dozens of beginners got interested in satellite thanks to my websites . (This is one of the reasons I got invited onto this forum) Ive only ever had one failure getting someone up and running - he got discouraged after a dozen or so emails back and forwards.

You WILL NOT be my second failure ok??

We WILL get you operational eventually.

When you look for south make sure you are looking for one of the frequencies avalable to the UK. Many of the 1W channels are on restricted footprints.

The strong beep you got would probably have been 2E (Astra 1C) or 5W (Atlantic Bird 3)

A couple of photos (one side-on) would help us spot if you're doing anything really daft

The other thing to remember is this - if you get one satellite (doesnt matter which one) you have a base point to start from if you can identify it by getting some channels off it.

Hi all

I've (we have) done it.

The eagle has landed on Thor lock and sync. Automatic Transponder search has given me the following satellites.(TV 1239 Free Only) to give you an idea of further adjustment required for the arc.

Astra/Euro Bird 28.2 E
Astra 19.2E
Eutelsat 16.0 E
Hotbird 13.0E
Eutelsat 10.0 E
Eutelsat 7.0 E
Astra Sirius 5.0 E
Thor 0.9 W
Atlantic Bird 3 5W
Telstar 15.0W

Thank you all so much.

Great stuff - well done.

You might want to try for these as well:

Eurobird3 at 33E
Badr 3 & 4 at 26E,
Astra 1C at 2E,
Atlantic Bird 1 at 12.5W
Atlantic Bird 2 at 8W

Excellent news Dezzy, well done m8!

If you can get some of those that Analoguesat has listed, your arc is pretty good.

Make yourself as familiar as you can with your dish alignment on 1W. See where it lines up with your fence, a chimney, tree or whatever. Also take some pics for your own reference. In permanent marker, mark your dish scale, motor scale, mounting pole, everything with this base setting so you can always get back there.

After a while, you be able to do it after coming home from the pub in the dark

30W is a must too. A whacking signal to be had off that.
