Default Dreambox 7020 Multisat Scan

HI,

Can anyone tell me what %age the SNR and the AGC should read before the Lock and SYNC boxes are ticked and are these done automatically by the DB.

Thanks

Dezzy

Yes they are done automatically. It varies but roughly 60% steady signal AND 0% BER

Thank you Jimdefruit,

Just attempting to find Thor 0.8W (top of the arc for me)

How do I tell the motor Via DB to move slightly West, and when I do will it store there. Or do I drive the motor slightly west manually and it stores the data until the motor is reset? :?

Am I correct in saying Jimdefruit that I should continue to persevere with searching for Thor and is the best way to find the arc. To do this do I use the automatic transponder scan and just select Thor in the menu and adjust until I get a lock and sync.

Regards Dezzy

If you have not found and stored a sat position in the dreambox, selecting a satellite will not move the dish.

What you have to do is use the automatic satellite scan option in the menus.
Select the motor setup option and then press the blue button to go to next window. You need to select the satellite that you want to scan, in your case Thor and select a good transponder frequency; I recommend 11325 H; and then use the east/west buttons to get max signal and 'lock on'. Press the green scan button and when complete, save the position and note the position number. If you make a note of the position number, you can in future go to that number without having to search again.

Repeat the operation for each of the sats you want to enter. When you switch to the scan window, the default entry will be 19.2E so make sure you change to the one you want otherwise you will be searching on wrong trnasponder details and probably not find any channels.

Thank you so much Jimdefruit

I have given 11325 H a try no luck there (I know this is because my true South set up at the moment is incorrect just though i'd give it a go)

SNR 60%
AGC 80%
BER 8421 This should be 0

Is there a list of all the recommended satellite transponders that I could refere to. It would make the job so much easier .

What is the Transponders function? and do we only choose 1 per-satellite in the set up menu?

My set up is

53.53 Latitude 2.75 West

Elevation on motor 37

Dish Bracket Setting 22.4

1 Very vertical pole (inclinometer and use of spirit level used many times today)

Still no transponders found.

Sorry about all the questions but I promise I only need to be told once

What you need to do now is set your receiver to BBC World on Thor 1W, ensure the dish is smack-bang in the middle of the motor output shaft (usually a casting mark to line up with) and then swing the whole motor/dish assembly on the pole to face due South. Read the utils section for numerous ways to achieve this.

Then drive the motor to 2E using the Dreambox. Check the azimuth scale near the motor output shaft to confirm this has occurred. You can also use the button on the underside of the motor to do this.

Now make tiny adjustments to the dish angle (up/down) and the azimuth (motor on pole, East/West) until you find Thor.

From then-on, you should be pretty close to full-arc reception. Minor tweaking and testing will hone this over time.

Keep the faith. When you find it for the first time, you will lose control of your bladder. I know I did!

Thanks BGonaSTICK,

Is the satfind facility an aid for you to locate the satellite or is it vital to lock and sync every single satellite.

In the satellite configuration (many satellite via DiSKqc Rotor) should I erase the satellites that I know I cant reach to make things simpler and do I make any adjustments to the LNB/22Khz/voltage menu.

"Then drive the motor to 2E using the Dreambox" (should this be West as my longitude is 2.75W) :?

Dont change the diseqc settings but you can delete the sats you dont want.

You have to save a setting position in the dreambox for every satellite you want to watch. The dreambox saves the positions as numbers and puts the sat name against that number. So make a note of the numbers you use and then you can go to any sat position in the future by saying go to number #. Its handy when, not if, you cock it all up in the future and lose the sat names.
