Please help me

Hi there, my name is Carlos A. Arce and i am from Philippines. i am sorry to bother you but i am really going nuts with my DSR, my brother bought this in Oman and i am now installing it here in Philippines. Problem is i cannot seem to find any signal. i am using eurostar offset 65CMS/2'2" dish, Samson universal ku-lnbf and Arisat AR-500+ DSR. my signal level reads 70% on Hotbird sat but i cannot have a picture signal. my friends told me maybe its my antenna setting or maybe the frequency i'm using. i really dont know and i hope you could help with this. thank you so much in advance and i hope to hear from you very soon.

Welcome to the forum carlosarce, you are not bothering us, we are here to help if we can.

You dont say where you are located but I assume you are somewhere in the uk. I am not conversant with the equipment you are using but a man who does know will be along soon.

Firstly try to set your receiver to frequency 11334 H 27500 2/3 which includes the free to air BBC World channel.

Adjust your dish for maximum signal on that transponder and you should be there.

Hi carlosarce. Welcome to the forum.

If you are in the Phillipines you have no chance whatsoever of getting the Hotbird satellites - they are below your western horizon. You will need to choose satellites that are visible to you.

Hi Carlos, nice to hear from you.

I'm afraid that Analoguesat is correct, even if your receiver indicates that you're getting a signal from Hotbird, it's completely impossible. It's just that whatever satellite you have found is using some of the same transmission characteristics, primarily frequency I guess.

Please let us know what you do manage to find and watch. It would be interesting to hear what it is you've locked onto

Thank you so much for responding, actually i am in Manila, Philippines and i would like to know which satellite station is best for me to track and to what satellite i should begin with. honestly, i found myself so helpless with this device and i really am so glad to hear from concerned people like you. i hope to hear from you soon and again thank you so much.

Analoguesat's post above is really going to be the best place for you to start. Do some research on everything that is physically possible for your location, and then try and get some local knowledge - check local dealers, quiz installers, observe other people's dishes/dish-sizes and see which receivers are available in your market.

I'm afraid that there are no short-cuts in obtaining this knowledge. It's just a case of putting in a few hours of detective work.

If you narrow down your choices, then we might be able to advise on specifics, but here in Europe, we're not going to be able to match the local knowledge that's been accumulated. You might be surprised what info you can gain with a few phone calls and checking the local papers and magazines.

Indeed - whilst we can advise on general principles and give some advice none of the admin team on the forum have any direct knowledge of the Asian broadcast scene.

We will certainly help as much as we can, and point you in the direction of info you are rather on your own for specific info. Ask around friends and neighbours who have satelitte tv - get some channel names off them. From that you can work out which satellite they must be getting their signals off which is a starting point

Thank you so much for taking time to read my mail, like what you've said i've been doing the detective work here in our place and i even went to see a local satellite service provider hoping i could get some help or info with regards to my setting/s, but still to no avail, maybe its because satellite tv has become a good business here in our country and that they are trying to limit the people from learning these, i hope you would always find time helping me and i promise to hear and follow whatever instruction/s i get from you. Thank you so much, people here in our country are more convinient in subscribing from local satellite tv provider. so i'm thinking if you could provide me which satellite should i be settign with; i figured ASIASAT3S just because i am is Asia but still am not sure sure which setting should i use because my DSR has benn factory reset! Whenever i do some search the system is asking for these setting;

VPID/ PPID/ APID/ FREQUENCY TP/ TP SYM/? this is the part that i do not really understand. i hope you may always find time to help me.

go to the sticky "Dish Setup Angle finder", download the software (saa.exe), type in your location info and it wil lthen tell you what satellites are visible to you. It even lets you use the sun to see where the sts are by using the sun's position at different times of day.
