I have just started with satellite recievers and have a fortec star zeta. Can anyone tell me why the two CI slots on the front seem to be sealed so that there is no way of getting a card in? It says on the front cover 2CI and says on the box it should take them. Am I missing something. Can't get an answer fron the UK agent.
Thanks |

From what I can see about the general specs it doesnt have CI slots available:
_http://www.fortecstar.com/estore/storefront/default.asp?ProductID=98&CategoryID=4 If this is right the the slots will be sealed with a blanking plate The title does say "Two Common Interface Slots Twin Tuners" BUT there ais nothing about CI slots in the specs :?

Can't you take the front cover off and see whats behind, and/or then pop the cover to see if CI slots actually exist?
If they do, plug something in and see what happens! Must admit, that this does seem a little odd :? Let us know what you find. A picture might be interesting too ![]()

Finally got a response from canada tech support. It seems the socket on the fron t I thought was for a laptop hard drive is a CAM slot which is where it takes a card. Told you I was a beginer!!! It takes a full size PC hard drive so looks like the cover if coming off!!
So does a CAM have connectors on the end to interface with the hardware and connect to a card? |

Great. Getting there. The zeta will take 2 PCMCIA slots fotr DVB so I must be able to get a CAM wqhich will hold 2 cards. That must be what it means in the manual by 2 slot Common interface for viaccess, conax, crypto works(TM), nagravision, irdeto and mediaguard. So is the CAM unique to a given subscription or can I get any CAM and fit any card to it?
Thanks for the help so far. Rocky |

One cam - one card (apart from some very recent ones that hold a sim card for a second provider).
Most cams are one encryption type only, although again some modern ones are multi crypt (Dragon Cam / Trex Cam)
