Hi People,
complete newbie here, and so far out of my depth that i'm walking on the sea floor. I have ordinary Sky package with an additional receiver (i.e. multiroom). I lost my sat signal a week ago and after asking a nice arial specialist (whom tested both my recievers ) was told that my LNB had gone down. it was a Skyware universal quad model. i have just acquired a new replacement LNB , which is made by Thompson. I did a straight forward swap of the LNBs' but still had no signal , in fact nothing at all apart from the faint outline of the sky guide. so i tried adjusting the angles of the dish and LNB. guess what ! now have even more of nothing. Do i really need to fork out anything upto £100 to get someone out to re-align my dish and LNB or can i regain my signal with the help of this forum ? I would appreciate yer help in this matter . many ,many thanx kind regards homeeee |

Welcome m8.
Yes, that site is a good source of info and alignment tips. There is also an excellent online utility here. It sounds like the dish alignment wasn't the problem, so now you have two problems. Bummer. It may be that your receivers just don't like that make of LNB. Stupid, but it happens. Also, the LNB could be knackered. Happens too. Is there any possibility that a tree or something has grown tall enough to obstruct the dish's view of the satellite? Do you have the same problem on both receivers? What were the symptoms before you changed the LNB? Have you messed about with the settings in the digibox(es)? Here's what I would do for starters, before coming back with some info. Disconnect each dish coax where it enters whichever receiver, and disconnect it at the LNB end too. Does it look like there's any water in there? Try and dry it out if unsure. Test each cable to make sure that the inside of the cable - the signal-carrying core - is electrically isolated from the outer shield (the outside of the F connector). The inner core should protrude a few mm from the end of the screw-on connector, be clean, and dry. What have you got? It might also be worth swapping the two receivers over for a test, though it sounds like your dish may be off now too. What do you get on the digibox signal test screen(s)?

Welcome to the forum. Did you have a separate cable from the quad lnb to each receiver? Also, did both signals disappear at the same time?
Do you have access to the dish to test if it is loose and moving about?

You can always try the old "send out an engineer for free or i'm going to cancel my subscription" trick
![]() There is that much competition now between Sky and c@ble that the market is becoming more or less saturated. Everyone that wants pay tv has it so both companies are fighting for each others business ![]() If you are in a cabled area this trick may work for you Ring up Sky and tell them you have lost everthing. They will then give you the usual spiel of "it will cost you £60 for an engineer call out". Tell them that you are unwilling to pay as its cheaper just to have c@ble installed and that you want to cancel the subscription instead. That usually gets the ball rolling ![]() They will then transfer you to the "We want to keep you as a customer team" who will try anything to keep you as a customer. ![]() Use your imagination & lay it on nice and thick with them and they will usually send out an engineer for free just to keep you as a customer. ![]() At worst it may backfire and you may still end up paying for an engineer or you will have to fix it yourself but to be honest it usually works ![]() ![]() Nano

Yes, of course a little 'Social Engineering' is often far easier than getting the toolbox out

![]() Not half as much fun, and I would hate to pay that sort of dough for someone just to swap out the lnb, or tweak the dish a few degrees. :spite: If accessible, I find it's better to do it yourself, at least you will learn more

I wouldn't mind an unskilled job that pays £780 an hour
