Default Triple Dragon or Dreambox?

Anybody got any experience of the Triple Dragon receivers?
Thinking of getting one to play with.
Looks like it's along the same lines of the dreambox range but a bit cheaper.
My Technomate is now going downstairs to link up with the main telly, and is going to get supplied from a monobloc and fixed dish for 13e and 19e (when the weather gets better).
I can patch it now from the laptop
It will then leave me with nothing upstairs in the lair to fiddle about with. :spite:
Going to move the motor (eventually) to get some experimenting done with the linux system.
Any advice would be appreciated

The TD is a really nice box. Just had a look at prices, and it is indeed a bit cheaper than the Dreambox. £350 with a 200 Gig drive installed - nice.

I know someone who has one, and they're very impressed with it. Superbly well made apparently.

There was sod-all available for it for ages in terms of images and whatnot, but there are now at least a couple of good sources of firmware. The TDman images are generally accepted as being de rigueur now I think, and the latest version comes with most of the known emulators and even keys installed. TD doesn't even attract the same level of heat from the providers as the DB.

As far as I can remember, it was originally supposed to come in three parts - the sat receiver and two other parts, but I can't remember what they were. A DVD recorder maybe? They were supposed to stack and inter-connect IIRC. I have a feeling one of the other two components did eventually come out, but the third didn't. This is only a very vague recollection.

Anyway, if you want something a bit different and a bit better value than a Dreambox, then the TD would be a good choice. A better choice than the Relook IMO.

Be prepared to be the black sheep though. The TD only has a tiny fraction of the support afforded to the Dreambox. You'll be forever scratching around for scraps in terms of software and knowledge. If you do go for it, I'll try and help you out as much as possible. Even set up a section on the TD here at Satellite Help and load it up with some basics, time permitting.

Thanks stick.
I'm currently bidding on one on Fleabay, around half the price without the hard disk. I can pick one of them up easily enuff tho.
I've been on JKF and they also have section set up with some basic info on how the system works. 8)
you can never get too much info on anything IMO.
I don't mind being the black sheep, I come from a family of 6, 4 sisters and a brother.
I've been the black sheep all my days.
I much prefer this forum as all answers seem clearer to me on here 8)

You could look for a second hand TM 7000 Dreambox. I saw a few go for around £150 - £170 when i didn't have any money

Had to settle for a new DM 7020 Si and the £329 bill that came with it as there was nob all going when i finally had the money

You could always have a look at the DGStation Mutant Reelook boxes if you don't want to stretch to the DM 7020. Apparently the DGSTATION Mutant Relook 200S runs DM500 dreambox images and the DGSTATION Mutant Relook 400 runs DM7000 images.

No idea if its true but i'm sure i read it somewhere on one of the forums

I've got plenty of space, where the TD would sit, so not too much bothered about the size if it, really

I was looking at the Dreamboxes as well, but as you say, Nano, it really depends on when the funds are available, and what's on offer at the time.
I've just ordered a triax 64cm dish (hope this is big enough :?), and a lemon 0.2db monobloc lnb from Fleabay (£55 inc p&p) and will fix this to where the motor set up is at the moment.
I hope to get this done at the weekend, get this damn usb to serial connector, and move my technomate downstairs for 13e and 19e. 8)
This will give me time to re-site my motor, run new co-ax, and get a new receiver.
I'm hoping to have a couple of hundred quid set aside for a stb, so every chance I could end up with the one of the Dreambox range if the timing is right.

Ive looked at those as well.
I've got a couple of weeks to decide really, and will scour the auctions for a second hand one as its only really for experimenting with.
Her indoors doesn't know about my secret stash or she would be putting a new front door in with it. :'(
Not a chance. :roflmao:
