Dutch media tycoon John de Mol and the entertainment company Disney are to form an alliance to take over the production company Endemol, according to today’s edition of La Gazeta.

Endemol is still 75% owned by Spanish company Telefónica. According to an anonymous source quoted by Reuters, Telefónica expects to complete a sale before April.

But the source would neither confirm nor deny that De Mol and Disney are the expected buyers of the company that was formerly co-owned by De Mol. He and Disney are already partners in a 91% share in Jetix Europe, the children’s entertainment company.

Shares in Endemol rose 5% in value on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange on the back of the La Gazeta report.
