Default Patching my technomate from laptop

Howdy guys.

I was going to patch my mate's Technomate from the laptop for the first time but noticed that the connector on the back of it was the same form as the cable. (i.e male).
I'm sure I read that someone else had the same problem, but can't remember which thread it was on.
Can you buy a male to female adapter and would this still work ok.

Mmm, something's wrong here.

Com ports have a row of five pins and a row of four pins, i.e. male.

The receiver should also have the same connector, i.e. five and four, male.

If that checks out, then the cable is wrong. The cable should clearly be 9-pin female to female to be a null-modem cable. If it's not, it's probably a serial cable - not the same thing at all.

This can't be the cable you've flashed your Techno with... :?

Oops, my terminology really sucks at times. ops:
It's the right cable as I just disconnected it from the main pc and my Tm this morning.
On closer inspection of the laptop I was actually trying to connect it into the port for a monitor
The laptop has 3 usb ports, can I utilise these as it doesn't have anything else to connect into?
My brain really isn't working at the moment

You need a "Usb to serial" cable. I got mine for £6 on ebay but you can probably get them cheaper.

:roflmao: I actually typed that in my original reply, and then removed it in case I offended you! :roflmao:

You can get a USB to serial converter which works on most laptops - but not all. Search the forum from the main index page for a previous thread on this.

Beware though, that the driver software might interfere with any other USB/serial type emulation software you have running on the lappy, like bluetooth adaptors, mobile phone c@ble connections etc.

I've just had the worst day I can remember for ages. :?
Not just with all the goings on with laptop cables etc.
My heed's been full of broken bottles today.
I thought I had lost my house keys, and after getting her indoors to fone round all the places I'd been yesterday eg taxi offices, my sister, various refreshment outlets etc, I checked again on the wee hook only to find them hanging up where they should be
I then was making fajitas and was using the grill thing she's got ( bit like the george foreman type thing but specifically for fajitas ) and I'd left the plastic taco holder on the grill. It melted as you can imagine. God struth!
Not very popular tonite I'm afraid.
To top it off, I rubbed bumpers with a car that was parked a bit too near my driveway (closer inspection found that there was no damage, phew). While myself and my wee lassie were checking the car, she stood up and accidently nutted me in the eye. Help me please.
I'm going to bed shortly and will probably have nightmares I imagine.
I hope it's not groundhog day tomorrow.

What a stupid place to put them, no wonder you couldn't find them. :roflmao:
