Default Learning to Fly the dreambox

Well so far i've managed to get it on to the Taxi way and thats about it

Got the HDD installed and thats up and running, although i had to settle for a 20Gb drive for now as I didn't notice the Seagate 40gb drive i had put aside for it was a 7200rpm one. From what i've been told they cause overheating problems so i've settled for the 20gb until i get something bigger.

Got all 4 sats tuned in and thats about it at the moment.

I've spent most of the afternoon wiring the dreambox up to the router using 2 network cables, 2 Krone network sockets and a nice 15m run of Krone PremisNET cat5 c@ble halfway round the outside of the house.

After all that when i connected it up it lit up the light on the router to say it was connected and thats it. Nothing else seems to happen.

I have set up the dreambox ip @ 192.168.2.27 and netmask up @ 255.255.255.0 and the name server and the gateway up as 192.168.2.1 (main router ip address) See pic (Obvious I.P stuff has been removed, 2 clients connected are 2 computers, it should say 3 if it knew the Dreambox was there > )

I have tried Pinging the Dreambox with no luck. I cannot get Flash Wizard or Dreamup to communicate with the box.

All the cables in the ethernet sockets are wired the same according to the instructions that came with the sockets so i don't think that is the problem.

Socket Colour

1 White/Green
2 Green/white
3 White/Orange
4 Blue/white
5 White/Blue
6 Orange/White
7 White/Brown
8 Brown/White

Any ideas here :?

Yep thats exactly as mine is set up AS bar the different IP address. Do you mind me asking how your router is setup as i'm guessing that may be the problem

Good stuff. Now find a compatible flash drive before you try playing with images (and a usb extension cable so you dont have to rootle round the back of the box every time you want to change the pen drive.)

Nice work

The HDD is a good short-term solution, but USB is better in the long-term because images running on the hard disk mean that it can never spin-down and have a rest

Well done Nano. Now the fun begins, trying to find the bits and pieces to install.

Have installed PLiŽ Garnet image and Neutrino.DREAM Plus v2.02/Da Vodka Xmas edition on to the HDD

I have also tried to install various cams without much success

This is a seriously steep learning curve Don't think I'll be packing away my Technomate just yet
