Default 7025 & HD

Am i right in thinkin that i need to buy a cetain type of Hard Disk to install into my 7025?

In the book it says UDMA66, however this is a very old standard and is not longer available? or will i be ok to put in a ATA100 spec?

Any ideas?

ATA 100 is backward compatible with UDMA 66 & 33. (I.e an ATA 100 drive will work with a UDMA 66/33 controller and Visa-versa) Your ok as long as its not SERIAL ATA.

I'm sure i read somewhere that you also need to stick to a 5400rpm drive to avoid over heating however i'm not sure how much truth there is in it :? I'm sure one of the other more experienced dreamers will put me right if i've got it wrong

I've got a 5400 rpm drive in my 7020 and it works fine

The 5400/7200rpm thing was more of an issue with the 7000 I think, but generally, slower-spinning drives are quieter and therefore more suited to STB applications. I don't know of any specific restrictions on drives for the 7025.

Dream used to produce a list of compatible drives, but then they just turned to whole thing over to Seagate who produced a single custom range for the Dreamboxes. Not sure if that situation remains unchanged.

Some folks even fit 2.5" laptop drives I believe. These tend to spin slower by default, and use less power too.

Seagate = very good drives, highly reliable I recommend and they have "5 year warranty".
