Tried updating my sl65 using xp and a usb 2 serial cable. Laptop crashed after 7% and restarted. The box is ok. This has happened before with mysetup when uploading a tps.bin to my technomate. I think i need to get hold of an old laptop with a serial port that i don't mind if it is kills the laptop.

I've got premiere working the patch itself took nearly half an hour so a word of warning for anyone using a usb 2 serial. The software does warn you when would be a bad time to crash/power down. Would it be possible for the mods to make a silvercrest specific section like the technomate section? Just so when lidl have another satellite sale we can point people in the right direction. Thanks everyone. I love this forum

Some of the USB-Serial converters do indeed have problems. Some of it is down to drivers, but you can't beat a proper serial connection (sorry, did I sound like an old git then?!?!) :? :roflmao:

I'll set up a Comag/Silvercrest section for you right now

Funnily enough, I was sending the latest tps bin today to the technomate (using usb/serial cable), and and it hung about around 7% then restarted and sent ok.
First time this has happened. :?

I would not use a usb to serial lead if at all possible

there has been so many probs at work with things been cabbaged after firmware updates hang

that we now carry docking stations for the laptops

Hi Arden

Does your SL65 look like the one posted in my Lidl thread? i.e. here:
http://www.lidl.co.uk/uk/home.nsf/pa...e_Receiver.ar6

I'm trying to find out if there's a good chance of patching it. I see Yorks instructions are only for the 12volt version.

yes I got It from lidl

the patch is quite old now though so its only good for D+ and cabo

from what ive heard cabo is on limited time as they are rumoured to have a card change on the way

a word of warning though take the cover off b4 patching and make sure you have the right chip set inside some sl65s sold in spain by lidl were a new type inside and people ended up with a door stop

Thanks for the info, Arden.

Judging from a forum I came across, this receiver is very popular in Spain. If patch support is waning, that puts me off a bit.

Support was never that good, but it had its moments. I would definitely say it's on the wane now, but you never can tell. We've been surprised many times before.
