It's almost certainly a null-modem cable you'll need, not a serial cable. A null-modem is 9-pin female to 9-pin female, whereas a serial cable has one male end.

You will also need a standard loader application from the manufacturer. I can't find the manufacturer website though

Is there some clue as to the web-address in the paperwork/manual you have?

If you don't have a cable, then personally I wouldn't waste any more time - just return it.

The Technomate TM-1500CI+ Super is the most flexible. They go for just under £100 if you shop around.

If you don't want to spend that much, the £60 TM-1000D Super is a Free To Air version (otherwise basically the same).

Both can be patched (a lot easier than your receiver, for sure) to receive pay TV from time to time - like now.

Both versions use the same patch and do the same thing, but the 1500 has a CAM slot and a card reader if you want to buy legitimate subscriptions.

Both have excellent support on the various forums.

The 1000D Super Plus is the one I have. £46 I paid on fleabay and its just the job for me at the moment and if you like it you can always buy a card reader for it later. I have seen those knocking about for £30 and apparently they just plug into the scart socket.
