Default v-box help

hi all,
iv'e had a satellite motorised system for years that used
a 36v motor, now i wish to up-date and the receiver is a
diseqc receiver as are most now, so i have ordered a v-box
to use with my 1.2 chn master dish and superjack motor.
this is the question, can i set the dish on IE: thor 1w and
remove my present receiver and connect the new receiver via though the v-box, will it work with the dish limits that are set, and can i scan the satellites and channels, or does the v-box have to be set-up first, it says the v-box can be used as a stand alone
unit and has a remote. or it can be controled via diseqc 1.2 from the receiver
the receiver and v-box hav'nt arrived yet and i dont know if there will be any
set-up instructions with the v-box, if anyone uses one of these your help
and advise would be very usefull. as iv'e always used the four wire 36v system.
btw: the v-box 11 is the superjack dp6600 model if that info helps.
thanks in advance.

Hi big d, sounds as if you are in for some fun.

Firstly it is a good idea to set the dish/motor to say Thor because then you will know where you are starting.
Not sure which receiver you will be getting but once the V-Box and receiver are connected, do a scan of the Thor satellite and save the position on the receiver/v-box. You can then enter the east and west software limits for the V-Box although not absolutely essential if the motor limits are set.

After that you will have to traverse the motor preferably from the receiver so you can save each satellite in the receiver as you go.

Let us know which receiver you have and specific help will probably be available.

The V-Box should be complete with an instruction booklet.

hi Jimdefruit,
thanks for your reply, iv'e always used the 36v motor system
but these are now very thin on the ground, hence having to go
the v-box way, which is something i know very little about. i found
a pdf doc on v-box set-up but dont know if they are all the same.
in the doc it shows the four wire points on the rear as motor + and motor -
i take it's motor 1 and motor 2, i dont know which is which. and it shows
sensor + and sensor - and again one will be pulse/reed and the other ground.
and i hope the one i get is a clearer i dont want to burn the reed switch out.
i know that if the motor wires are fitted wrong it does'nt cause problems
the dish just goes the wrong way, then it's just a change wire's over to correct
as for the pulse/ground i'm not sure? as for the receiver it a technomate 1500

My setup is a dreambox with V-Box and 18" actuator on a 1200 channel Master. Yes it is very important to get the motor and reed switch connections right.

I bought and set up the V-Box when I changed from an Echostar 3000 to the Dreambox.

The V-Box saves the sat posions as numbers and the receiver just tells the V-Box to drive the motor to a particular numbered position.

Jonty should be able to help with any queries you have on the Techy because I think he had played with more than most.

@big d

i presume your new receiver is the technomate
but what was your old receiver ,could you not check on that where the reed and earth wires go to.
you do know about the motor wires

you could possibly test which wire goes to earth with a meter.
hope your dish is near the ground (does make it easier)

i, like Jimdefruit changed from an echostar ad3000ip via to a dreambox 7000s and i used a v-box version 1
which i had given to me, alas that eventually broke down and i now use a stand alone pace msp 200 series
old now i know but it does the trick, just a matter of pushing a button on another remote

i'm sure you will get full instructions with the v-box .

all the best.

thanks mate,
are you saying that the v-box has to be set with a number
for each of the satelitte possitions, even though the receiver
is controlling the dish movements
i hope the v-box iv'e ordered has better info on
the motor and pulse connections etc: than whats shown in the pdf doc
i know the motor wires if fitted wrong way around it just
sends the dish the wrong way and wont damage the motor
as long as they are connected to the motor + and - ports
it says in the doc connect the pulse and ground to the
sensor + and sensor - terminals, this doc implies you can connect
any way around to these ports

hi m8,
i have a manhattan st 550 and the wires are as follows
motor 1 [blue] motor 2 [red] reed/pulse [blue/wht] grn [red/wht]
and the motor connections are marked clearly on the receiver
but on the pdf doc i found on v-box set-up it only says
mortor + motor- sensor + sensor- on the v-box this makes
the wiring a bit more of a mystery

this may be of some help

h**p://**w.satellitesuperstore.com/vbox.htm

i would think the sensor goes to the red(blue and white)
with the black(green and white) being earth(that is on the v-box).

an e-mail to the above would perhaps help if in doubt

or maybe Jimdefruit can check on his system for you,but not all installers use the same colour coded cables.

hi abr
it's the same as the one on the info you gave your link shows the connections
for the wires, i hope they give info on the wiring because the pdf which was
posted as a set-up guide did'nt make clear for the motor wiring. and putting
+ and - for the motor 1 and 2 settings does'nt help nor does sensor + and -
for pulse and ground wire possitions. i added a doc showing the v-box iv'e ordered
when it come's i will have a better idea on how to set up, and then i will come
back with a up date, thanks to you and Jimdefruit for your help and advise
