Hello everyone, I am new here and have only just stumbled across this site.
I've tried reading some of the stickies but I don't understand much about what is being talked about LNB etc etc. I have a Sky subscription, the normal box, not the Sky + I want to know if I can split the cable that comes from the dish to the digibox so I can connect it directly to my PC. I have a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1300 Hybrid PCI card in my computer. So basically what I want to do is split the cable coming from the dish, so I can have one to my PC and the other will carry on as normal to the digibox. Welcome to the forum BlackMamba. Firstly, unless I am wrong, your PC card is for terrestrial tv and not satellite so it wont work.
Your diagram showing a tee off connection would be likely to result in a big loss in signal strength. The best way to connect would be to fit a twin or quad LNB in place of the existing LNB. The LNB (low noise blocker) is the thingy at the end of the arm on the satellite dish. That is the item that actually receives the satellite signal.

Thank you for your response.
So I will need a low noise blocker, something like this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/brand-new-thom...QQcmdZViewItem Which model/make would you recommend. Then I will need to connect a cable from it to my PC. I will also need to get a different TV card such as this: http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/pro...novasplus.html Is there a specific card you could recommend? If there is anything else you think I should know, please respond. Thanks |

Hi BlackMamba,
as stated by Jimdefruit tour PCI card seems to be only for terrestrial signals, so if you connect your roof top aerial you can get the freeview digital channels and analogue TV, to use your computer to receive satellite signals you require something like a skystar PCI card, or upgrade you Hauppage to the 3000 or 4000 model. |

Yes and yes to your questions.
Most seem to favour the Technisat SS2 card but the Hauppage is probably just as good. Those two items and a bit of CT100 cable and a bit of software and you will be watching sat tv on your PC.

There is more support available from the 'net for the Skystar2 than any other PCI satellite card ever made

Hello again. Thanks for all the help so far guys.
If I do follow the setup as described, replacing the lnb and purchasing the skystar2, and running another line between them, which channels would I be able to receive? |

Ass uming you have the dish pointing at the sats carrying Sky you will be able to watch anything transmitted in the clear (BBC, ITV, shopping, religious, all the radio etc). You WONT be able to watch C4, C5, or any of the pay channels.
