Default YouTube said to be in classic TV deal

YouTube signed a deal with Digital Music Group to post more than 4,000 hours of video content such as classic television shows to the video-sharing site, The Wall Street Journal reported on its Web site late on Sunday.

Digital Music, an online distributor of independently owned music, TV shows and films, will receive an undisclosed portion of revenue from ads that YouTube shows on the Web pages featuring its programming, the newspaper said.

The programming, which includes episodes of US shows I Spy and Gumby, will be free to users when it becomes available in the coming weeks, the newspaper said.

Under the deal, YouTube will also use a filtering technology to identify songs for which Digital Music controls the rights that are being used without authorisation in videos on the site, the paper said.

I have to admit I spend too much time on YouTube but I enjoy all those old 70s and 80s music videos. I think its a good idea. You can even find episodes of Fawlty Towers on there but they are generally cut to 3 9 minute chunks.http://www.extremepixels.com/vb/skins_vb.php

I use it quite a bit now myself (I usually end up there when using google video).
I watched the QPR-China scrap earlier and the Ricksen punch up at St. Petrsburg cos I missed them recently on the Telly.
I like the concept of doing that sort of thing, though sitting watching a film on the pc doesn't really suit me. I've tried it a few times but much prefer the big couch or the recliner ops:
