Default Virgin Central offers 'on-demand TV feast'

Virgin Media has launched its free on-demand TV channel, Virgin Central, offering a selection of shows available from Virgin Media's full on-demand library. The launch coincided with the announcement that Virgin Media has signed an on-demand content deal with Warner Bros. Last week Virgin Media agreed to carry HBO's subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service.

Virgin Media said Virgin Central combined "the simplicity of a traditional channel with the choice and control of TV-on-demand technology". Shows from The OC, Grey's Anatomy, The West Wing, Nip/Tuck, Little Britain, Alias, Criminal Minds and CSI are available for download via the electronic programme guide (EPG). Shows are regularly updated.

Virgin Media chief commercial officer Ernie Cormier said: "Virgin Central offers a feast of hit shows in one place and is set to become the destination of choice for TV lovers. By combining brilliant content with the unrivalled versatility of our technology, we have created something that no other company provides. Virgin Central will make TV-on-demand the simple, compelling service it should be."

Virgin Media CEO Steve Burch said the on-demand deal with Warner Bros - financial terms were not disclosed - marked the cable operator's "biggest content investment". "The agreement will add hundreds of hours of must-see shows to our on-demand library, which customers can easily access and control at any time of day or night."
