Default Zone 1 sky dish suitable?

Right, I've ordered my SkyStar2 card and it should be here pretty soon. What I want to do is get some more dishes put up.

I currently have a Sky Mini-Dish pointing at 28.2°E, which I don't want to touch (Apart from to put a Quad LNB on).

I want to get a dish pointing at 13°E & 19.2°E as these seem to be the most commonly used.

I can get a full dish/lnb package for £19. According to the description it includes:
'SKY Digital Minidish and LNB . Average size 45cm, region 1.
It includes Minidish , LNB and all the wall bracket.'

I was thinking of getting two of these and pointing one at 13 East and one at 19.2 East.

Would they be suitable for such a job?

Thanks in advance...

Hi Gav

you would get a signal off both 13e and 19.2e with a 43cm minidish however the dish pointing at 13e would probaly suffer with rain fade. I.e loss of signal when it rains or gets cloudy.

To be honest you would probably be better off going for something like a Global Orbit 80R or similar with a 2 lnb setup which you can get off ebay for about £30 plus postage. The mounting bracket will probably come in at about £10 plus postage.

You will also need a DISEqC switch with what ever setup you go for in the end (£5 approx)

You will get a much better signal with the 80cm dish with very little rain fade. you could also add a 3rd lnb for 28.2e to save you having more than one dish on the wall.

I still use a minidish as a spare but to be honest it is quite limited to what you can pick up off it. Works well on 19e and 28.2e but in my experience not much else, however i have picked up 5w with it and other people on the forum have reported picking up 30w with one aswell.

Hope this helps mate

Hi there,

What would I need teh DISEqC switch for (And what is it?)?

And I'm not using eBay as I hate the damn thing I'm scared of the internet I'm banned, but would this be okay for 13 East?

'Sky 60cm Dish + Wall Mount
SKY Single LNB'

If not, would this be okay?

"80cm Dish + Wall Mount
0.2 dB Universal LNB'

I'd rather have 3 dishes & keep it simple rather than trying to pick up two satellites on one dish.

A 60cm dish would be fine.

Trust me when i say that installing a second lnb to 1 dish is a lot easier than installing another dish. You should be able to get everything i have mentioned from your local sat equipment supplier for around the same price.

The url below will explain what a diseqc switch is

I have also put a piccie of one of my 80cm dishes to give you a better idea of how to install a 2 lnb setup
