Default skystar 2 PCI card question

Hi

After reading so much good stuff about one of these, i'm looking to buy one. Unfortunately i'm not so hot with this satellite stuff just yet so am a bit worried that i wont be able to set it up correctly. From what i've read they have to be wired/plugged straight into the LNB, is this right? Is there no other way? can i not loop through (i think that's the correct term!) my technomate?

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Hi Juan,
AFAIK you can loop through from your TM perfectly well while the receiver is on standby. However if the receiver is switched on you will only be able to watch channels broadcast on the same polarity as what your receiver is on. For instance, if your receiver is switched on and you are watching a channel with horizontal polarity, then you can only watch channels with horizontal polarity on your Skystar. Switch the TM off and you can watch both horizontal and vertical polarity channels on your Skystar

Hope this makes sense, I'm a bit tired now so I'm off to bed ops:

Kev

I assume your Techie has a loop through connection and you could use that. However, you would then lose the advantage of a PC sat card because you would not be able to have two different transponders on the Techie and the PC card at the same time.

The best arrangement would be to have a twin lnb, one section feeding the Techie and the other feeding the pc card. That way you could watch/record two different programmes at the same time.

Thanks for the quick replies!

OK, thats great, i'll just loop through my technomate for the time being until i pluck up the confidence to install a twin LNB. Or more likely pay a professional to do it for me !!

It won't matter to me initially that i cant have the technomate on a different polarity as i'll be mainly using the skystar to watch 422 feeds.

Thank you both for your help.

Don't knock it 'till you've tried it

Some excellent night-life down here. Great restaurants and pubs too.
