Default Sky Package

I am thinking of going for the new Sky package of Broadband/6 Mixes (TV)/Telephone for £26 a month. I have heard that the changeover for the braodband is within a few days once I have the MAC number from my current supplier. Would anyone care to contribute?

I don't think you can migrate to sky. Because of two reasons:

1) They give you a hard wired router, and don't let you use another one (their are, however workarounds).
2) Sky is a LLU ISP.

Yep, Gav is 100% correct.

You can also bastardise the Sky router and revert it to a standard Netgear wireless router too.

It will probably take more like two weeks to complete the switchover. I'm with Sky now, and mine was around two weeks. That seems pretty typical based on the chats I've had with other users and stuff I've read on the forums.

Everyone's experience is going to be different, but I must tell you that I find the broadband package to be totally rubbish.

I use the Internet a lot. I'm a seriously big-time surfer and downloader, and although the overall package I had from Sky (TV, broadband, plus all the freebies and discounts etc.) was very good, the broadband service itself is extremely unreliable. I'll be dumping it just as soon as my 12 month contract is up, and walking away with all the free hardware and software.

The loss of Sky TV will be hard, but the reinstatement of a reliable Internet connection will be well worth it.

You might want to do some careful reading up on peoples experiences with Sky BB. Where it works it seems to work ok, but theres an awful lot of horror stories out there too.

Thanks guys for your input.
I am currently with Metronet for broadband and have been with them for a couple of years now. I find them very reliable, almost no trouble (except when they are doing maintenance and forget to inform anyone by email). Its a bit hefty tho at 22.50 per month so the Sky package looked pretty good-I am reading all the info on other experiences as advised, before I make the final move tho.

Want a better deal? Call Sky and ask for JUST their TV. Then call up the next day saying you can no longer go ahead due to financial reasons. They'll give you it half price for a year.

Call them back the NEXT day and ask for Broadband & Phone.

You don't get a special deal for getting it all at once.
