UPS.. Uninteruptable Power Supply...
These things have saved my ASS in the past... Basically it is a power strip/surge protector that has a built in battery. When you lose power it will provide up to 5-15 minutes power to your PC... plus most come with software to save all your files and shut down your PC.. I went with APC as I have had one in the past.. ![]() If you lose power, your stuff will be safe.. I think this type of product along with a hard drive back up are necessary for every dedicated computer user! |

That thing would've come in handy, when the power cut out when I was typing a 4 page paper a few months ago. But now that I've seen it, I wanna get it for insurance reasons.

Yeah you can get em for about $50 on up... I would go with APC personally... It is a lifesaver is you are working on something and the power goes out.. or if the power goes out and you try to reboot and the power goes out again... that fried the hard drive on my girlfriends PC.. this little puppy would have saved her all the agony of replacing all the files she lost..

I have never used a UPS but I am thinking to buy one real soon as power cuts & failures are very frequent in my city and I have lost quite a lot of work just because of power failures. Do you guys have any recommendations? It must be cheap & good because I am hard on budget these days

APC makes good product.. in your country there might be more brands, so I would check out the local supply. Make sure the brand is reputable, if they use cheap batteries, the unit will die out quickly and it will be a waste of money. Remember, this is to safe guard your PC, and I am assuming you have information on your PC you want to save. Don't cheap out too much on a UPS, it's good insurance!

They are definately worth having but if you have a laser printer, make sure that is not plugged into your UPS, if you do watch your electric meter TAKE OFF.
