i am thinking about getting this card but wanted to know if i can use the signal from my sky minidish.
i can split the incoming signal easily and boost it if needed but before i spend the money on the card i want to know it is possible. ( well before my wife kills me for wasting money that is)) |

Welcome to the forum brachaloch.
I have not used that card but if you have a twin or quad LNB on your minidish then yes you can use it. You will need a separate cable from the dish to the card and then just install the drivers and tv software and off you go. One word of warning, Vista has trouble with some of the drivers and it is difficult if not impossible to get it working with a sat card. Windoze XP and Linux should not be a problem.

Hi brachaloch!
Welcome to the forum ![]() You should have a lot of fun with a satellite card in your PC. Try some different viewer software too, and see which one you like the most. The most popular (free) ones right now (Windows 32-bit) are probably ProgDVB and AltDVB. They should both support your card, but you'll have to try them. There's usually no problem installing more than one at a time.

If you just split the cable, you will have to make sure that when you use either the receiver or the card, that the other is switched off. The receiver and the card control switching of the LNB. Also if you split the cable and add a booster, the quality will be reduced.

A quad LNB and a second cable run from the dish is best.
You can also add a manual A-B switch to isolate one receiver at a time, or use a priority switch like the Global SPS1, but be aware that the stupid Sky digibox doesn't ever drop into complete 'standby' - the LNB power is always on. The SPS1 can handle that with a little thought on the setup.
