Hi everyone, It's very windy here and I'm experiencing video break up on Art channels amongst others. Reception has been fine since installation on Sunday.
Is this normal in these conditions or do you know otherwise!

The only time I get trouble is when there is an electrical storm about. Can you see any movement in your sat dish?

Can't really see anything for sure as it's dark, but I noticed problem when I came home dinnertime. Rai channels were okay but others were breaking up. What do you suggest I check when wind dies down?

It's definitely worse when wind is gusting! there's bas break up on BBC WORLD NOW!

All you can really check is:

That there is no up/down or sideways movement of the dish.
That the LNB and arm are not moving
That the cable is securely connected to the LNB/motor if you have one.

Also is there a tree in the way that is being blown across the line of the satellite?

Well there's definitely no tree or other moving object in the way! I'll check other options when conditions improve.

I find that the ART transponder is one of the slightly weaker ones on Hotbird, but not too bad.

It sounds to me like your dish isn't bang-on to start with and with a little bit of movement it's just dipping below the threshold. A fine-tune should fix it.

Try flexing the dish face up/down/east/west slightly to see if you can get the signal quality to increase slightly (you may need a willing helper to do this). If you can see a slight improvement then you can think about getting the spanners out and making the adjustment permanent.

If you mark everything first with a permanent marker, you'll always be able to get back to where you are if it all goes awry.

. Now that the wind has died down Art sport is slightly breaking up and BBC World is extremely bad whereas it was fine before today's strong wind, so obviously something has changed.
What I can't get my head round is that Rai channels seem to be fine. If dish isn't bang on would it not affect all channels on Hotbird?

Dish is easy to get to , so I'll give it a tweak hopefully tomorrow with my lad on the receiver end checking signal. I was thinking maybe fine tuning BBC world!

Different transponders can (and do) use different power levels and therefore give different reception results. If you have an ART card, then you probably want to fine-tune your dish for that transponder

You'll find that you may have to adjust your dish slightly to peak the signal for different transponders, particularly on orbital locations such as 19.2E and 13E etc where there are multiple satellites - they may vary in exact location by up to maybe half a degree!

I think I have sussed out problem(famous last words!)

ops:

I didn't get time to to tie down cable run properly from LNB to receiver last weekend.
I went up about an hour ago and found by pulling it up and adding half a dozen temporary cable ties for time being I got my signal back straightaway.

The only other thing I suppose it could be is loose f connector to LNB, although I did cover it with amalgamating tape on Sunday and again looks pretty secure on inspection today.
It's still pretty windy now and picture is still stable.
Dish and motor brackets seem to be fixed tight so I reckon dangling cable must have been problem.
I shall go up again at weekend weather permitting and secure all connections properly.
