I think you will agree - a real work of art. It turned out he had used acrylic paint, and had tried the dish before the paint was dry. Result - the water in the paint totally absorbed the signal. So he spent half an hour washing it all off again!

After the usual painting advice (car primer) he is going to have another go when its a bit warmer....

Hes actually quite a talented art chappy - have a look at www.bikersplacetoo.com for some of his drawings (WARNING do not click the link if drawings of nubile young things either losing their clothes or in skimpy rags offends!! (That should guarantee a few visits!)

Yeah, very cool. I love both pencil and ink drawings.

Well he has certainly studied the fairer sex very closely. And he paints bricks on a sat dish!

An update on this story - Biker bloke has had another go - and I think you have to agree the final result is absolutely stunning

Heres his description:

Once the base coat was dry I checked the reception on the TV and it worked fine. It boosted my confidence no end so I got busy with the finer stone and moss details for it. About 2 hours later I stood back and admired the results... and fell into the pond
Hehehehhehee

The first day was obviously a damp one and the paint just stayed wet. It DID wash off really easily when I wiped it down a little later.

Incidently for this attempt I didn't use any undercoat or car paints. Just a light rubbing down with fine glasspaper to give some key to the paint on the metal.

I've used "cheap and nasty" acrylic paints bought in a high street shop called "The Works" for £1.99. So you can guess the quality of the paint. Acrylic gives a matt finish and once the weather warms up a little more today I'll paint the matt acrylic varnish as a sealing coat over the whole shebang.

Looks pretty good eh?

If you'd like to feel free to add any of these pictures to your website if you think they'd help others have a go too. I might go into business doing this sort of thing myself so please include my email address too Heheheheee £100 a dish but I won't work from heights above 15 feet... stepping back from that height is more dangerous than stepping into a pond at ground level!!

Have a great weekend Ross, I'm off to check if my boots have dried out yet.

If anyone in the Normandy area of northern France wants his email address to possibly commission a personal dish paint job contact me direct

That's bananas, but very, very cool. I guess you could have got a similar effect in a tenth of the time, but he obviously enjoyed doing it, so good on him.
