Hi everyone, it's pain in the a--e here again
ops:I am perplexed with signal quality I am achieving at different times of the day and would like one of you boffs to enlighten me if possible ![]() I have noticed yesterday and this morning (about half an hour ago) under calm conditions just flicking through channels on Hotbird that Art sport and a few other channels are slightly breaking up. I popped home dinnertime yesterday and noticed problem had gone and all channels were fine again. Last night in rainy and quite windy conditions all channels were fine but as I said problem is there again this morning ![]() I don't seem to get better than mid 70's quality signal percentage wise on any channels with 80 cms dish. Rai and BBC World channels hover around 70 percent( although picture quality is great) and mid 60's on Art Sport but I have read that's quite normal for this channel! What I can't get round my head :? is why it presumably seems signal is better later on in the day and in adverse conditions! As some of you may have read on my previous "reception" thread, dish and motor brackets (at present motor is disconneted) are secure and I cannot see any movement at all. I plan to go up this afternoon to check it out again but I must admit I am now totally confused :? |

I read somewhere that satellites are moved slightly in the evening to allow the solar panels to pick up the last bit of solar power before the sun disappears :?
Could be a load of crap though LOL : ![]() Kev

Well I've made some slight adjustments and managed to get Art Sport up to about 70 percent (not noticed any improvement to be honest)whilst Rai channels have dropped a couple of degrees but reception is still great!
The one or two other channels that were breaking up seem to be steady as well for now ![]() I also have noticed when checking connections that motor arm seems to have a tiny amount of vertical play and certainly affects reception if I pull dish up forcibly(remember I don't have motor connected at present) Is this normal? I have tightened arm as far as it will go with allen key but that tiny play is still there. I'll see how things go over the next few days and maybe take motor down for now if I get anymore intermittent signal loss. |

I'd leave the motor connected. It means you can adjust the dish for azimuth from the comfort of your living room.
It's normal for motors to have a little play in them. It won't make any operational difference to your reception. I'm pretty sure that your breaking up business is just the alignment being slightly off (as I think you've found).

Hi Stick,
I think you're right Ihave been flicking through channels today about the same time as last couple of mornings where I have been getting break up and touch wood reception is stable all round ![]() As you say maybe it just needed that little tweak. Hopefully this is last bit of advice on this particular thread. Many thanks once again  |

art 12.015h transponder has always been lower than the others as i get very good signal 88%+ but art is like 74%
it would be much better if it was on hotbird7a or 8

I 'm getting tops 70 % on Art with 80 cms. I don't have any channels hitting 80% at all. :?
I'm not touching dish anymore for now. I will get it sorted properly when spring comes! |
