bought my starter kit from maplin which is fortec star beta receiver and 60cm dish . my lat 51.4131 long -0.4281 dish elevation 25.4, az 148, pol-20.9
spent an hour this morning glueing the dish to the wall and got it about as right as i could with the cheap mounting kit, at this point i should not have stepped back to admire my handiwork. ![]() when i got back from hospital i wheeled out the telly and plugged in the box, using my trusty compass(accurate to +/- 180 degrees) and a bit of guesswork i attained signal strength for astra 28.2 approx 73% quality 82% and ber 10 - 40%.instructions tell me to set up astra 2a,b,d and also astra 1b for complete listing of english channels :? my setup menu only lists astra 2/eurosat (or something like that, not in front of box at moment, trying to get pickies of the lunar eclipse while i am asking these q's) anyway, starting from somewhere in the middle :? i have no idea if my signal strengths are good, bad or indifferent? what is ber? why do my instructions tell me to set up satelites that are not in the drop down list? will i win the lottery tonight, (that is relevant to this forum is it not??) ![]() i scanned the satelite at 28.2 and got a list of channels, the list of channels do not correspond to the channels i was expecting having looked at ftasat.co.uk please please can someone give me some clues ![]() will be back soon, the eclipse is calling for my attention ![]() thanks in aunty pisication :roflmao: wibble

I guess you are physically aligned on the wrong sat, and scanning what the receiver thinks is 28.2E. If you can tell us what channels it's actually found, we'll tell you where your dish is pointed
![]() We'll need several, and some bizarre ones would be good. Try and use any idents physically on the screen if possible to confirm what you're seeing. Eclipse was fab eh?

As remlap says, most channels have DOGS (onscreen logos) which helps identify them. Check out some of the threads in the new channels section for typical examples.

yep you are on astra 2 @28east now just make sure you get the best signal by skewing the lnb clockwise so it points to roughly 7o'clock and dish elevation
