Default Firmware update

Hi, I am a new and just wondering if you guys could enlighten me, I heard that the firmware in the Digital sattelite box can be upgraded. Could you tell me how, and what kind of cable I need. My DSB is KAON KSF 570 and I see a serial port connection. Is it the same as the serial port on computers or it is different.

Many thanks

Hi Don, welcome to the forum.

I wouldn't be surprised if you found a serial connector on your Kaon. You'll probably need a null-modem lead to connect it to your computer.

Firmware may or may not be available to update the firmware this way. If it's a subscription box, it's more unlikely. The best place to check is the manufacturer website.

You are looking for a loader application (that runs on your PC) and an updated firmware file to load onto the STB.

Hope this helps (a little).

as a newbie i came across this in my fortec stb manual

fortec star are quite clear that if you personally update your firmware then you throw any warranties out of the window, obviously this wont matter if your box is out of warranty, but i would imagine that most if not all manufacturers include this exclusion :spite:
