Default How to make my TV come on in the right mode

Hi. I'm wondering if you can help.

I have a Panasonic Quintrix TV, with feeds in from my NTL box and my DVD player. I've configured my NTL remote to be able to control my TV, and to switch the TV on, I press (* plus stand-by).

When I do this, the TV comes on in VCR mode (snow) and I have to press (* #) to get it to AV1 mode, which is the NTL. Instead, I'd like it to default to coming on in AV1 mode.

Does anyone know whether this is possible?

Thanks,

Dan.

Welcome to the forum Dan

Is your n~t~l box on AV1 and your DVD player on AV2?

Do you leave your n~t~l box on, or do you leave it in standby?

If you leave it in standby, does your TV auto-switch to AV1 when you bring the c@ble box out of standby?

You should look for settings on both the TV and STBs that say 'SCART Control' as I believe it's a voltage on pin 8 that is used to communicate that a connected box is on and sending a video signal.

It might also help if you have a fully wired SCART lead. Cheaper leads don't have all pins connected.

Thanks, BGonaSTICK.

Here's the set-up. The NTL box is connected to my DVD, and my DVD player goes into the AV1 socket on the TV. Nothing goes into the TV's AV2 socket. I've looked at the SCART lead going into the TV, and all of the pins are there.

There are no menu options for "SCART Control" on the TV or STB.

Hi danosirra,
do you mean you've unscrewed your scart lead and checked all the pins are wired? If you have just looked at the pins this will not tell you anything, try switching the scart leads round.
Is your DVD player a DVD recorder? Which would explain why you're running your box through the DVD and then into your TV.
If switching the Scarts round doesn't work please check if either are fully wired.

And if your DVD player is indeed just a player, try connecting it directly to the TV's AV2 socket. Also, make sure that the lead that's plugged into the cable box goes into the 'TV Out' SCART socket and not the VCR one.

I've fed the DVD (player only) directly into the AV2 socket on the TV, and still nothing. Have changed the cables around and no luck either. I'm not keen on taking apart the cables. If I buy a new fully-wired SCART to go from NTL to TV, will this solve the issue?

Thansk for your help, guys.

It could be a number of things, so you'll have to either test your cable with a meter, or buy a new fully-wired cable and give it a try (it should say 'fully wired' on the packaging). Here's a pinout table I found on the 'net somewhere:

SCART Pin Connections

RGB

15Red Out, 0.7V p-p, 75 Ohms
13Red Return, 0 Volts
11Green Out, 0.7V p-p, 75 Ohms
09Green Return, 0 Volts
07Blue Out, 0.7V p-p, 75 Ohms
05Blue Return, 0 Volts
16RGB Switch
18RGB Switch 0 Volts (Pin 16 Return)

Composite Video
19Composite Video - Out
20Composite Video - In
17Composite Video Common, 0 Volts

Stereo Audio
01RH Audio - Out
03LH Audio - Out
02RH Audio - In
06LH Audio - In
04Audio Common, 0 Volts

Function Select
08Function Switch Out / 16:9 Switching
210 Volts (General Return)

Not Connected
10NC
12NC
14NC

I believe that there have been one or two subtle variations to this though, so it's not gospel. Pin 8 is the one of interest. Connections are pin for pin, so pin 8 on one end connects to pin 8 on the other.

Picture attached.
