Default Multi-LNB setup

Lo all,

My Edisions and cable arrived yesterday so I am all ready to finish installing my dish. I have the azimuth bearing sorted (I took a direction using the sun on Saturday) so only the elevation and skew to do now.

But anyway, coming to what I wanted to write about. I am hoping to eventually use my dish with a dual-tuner set-up, and hopefully have another room wired as well. Given that I have four LNBs this sounds like it will be a monstrous amount of cable - and 8-cable thick holes in the wall sounds like an awful idea; I dread the idea of it becoming 16.

So, are there any ways to reduce the number of cables? Perhaps this is something I should have asked before I bought the 4-way LNBs etc. Will I also need to unplug the sat feed every time I want to change satellites? Are there switches/multiplexers/mixers/whatever available that could do it for me?

I am planning to receive 28E, 23.5E, 19.2E and 13E on a 60cm dish. I'm only after FTA, with interest in FTA high definition & Italian channels too. Do this sound reasonable?

Sorry if I've rambled,
Steve

stv, if you are looking at 4 twin LNB's and 2 receivers then the good news is that you can do it with two 4 way diseqc switches. The bad news is I think you will need something bigger than a 60 cm dish to accomodate four LNB's. Ther eis apost somewher here which shown the diseqc connections but I am rushing back to the Liverpool 2nd half so will look later.

Hi Jim, thanks for the reply, I will do a search for one of these magical diseqc devices you speak of

My dish is specially designed for up to five LNBs* - so I thought it should be ok. Was it a physical constraint that you spoke of and does my dish get around this?

hope the result was what you wanted in the footy,
Steve

Ok, Liverpool are through. I am not a true supporter, I just like the way they play.

That toroidal dish should be ok and I beleive one or two members have them. However, I dont have experience of them and there may be a problem trying to get two satellites close together.

Have a look at the following: http://www.satelitska-tv.com/montaza_multifeed.asp.

Not quite what you are after but if you treat each of the dishes as shown as a section of a twin LNB and then just have 2 x 4 way diseqc switches, each diseqc switch would connect to a receiver (tuner)..

If the diseqc switches are weatherproof and located near the dish then you only need two cables, one to each tuner.

You could also use twin satellite cable(shotgun),to reduce the number of cables, even on the outside.
