Good idea. A surprise bill for £250 duty would really hurt!

The guy responded: "We ship them as gift and very low value so there should not be any customs tax but cannot guarantee it. 99% of our customers do not pay anything."

The funny thing was that I had TWO responses to the same question from TWO different eBay accounts, selling the same thing. How's that possible? Can you have two linked accounts on eBay so that when someone is emailing questions to one of them, then both accounts are getting it?

So, from what you are saying, in the best case (assuming 'best' is when I have to pay VAT only) it'll be £15-ish VAT charge + another £15-ish carrier charge. In which case, price is going to be roughly 130 quid or so. Not such a bargain after all.

Many eBay sellers have multiple accounts, so you would only have to automatically have your email server forward copies to your other email accounts (or simply pull all your email from multiple pop3 servers into one client). You can then use the 'reply' function/link embedded in the email to respond via whichever eBay account you happened to be signed into.
