Channel Five has become the latest broadcaster to suspend programmes using premium-rate phone services.
The watchdog for those services is meeting broadcasters and programme makers to look at ways to end the recent controversy over TV phone-ins. Icstis is discussing restoring viewers' confidence in premium-rate TV quizzes and votes after a series of problems. Solutions could include a licensing system or quality mark guaranteeing that interactive services are genuine. Channel Five had experienced problems with its daily quiz show Brainteaser. IMHO the phone companies should be prosecuted for not providing 'duty of care'
The current fashion for collecting money to pass onto companies has got totally out of hand. The practice is being used by all sorts of scamsters (is there such a word) to steal money. It is not so bad when you know you are going to pay £1.00 for a few seconds call. If you are daft enough it serves you right. There are plenty of ways to donate money to charities without syphoning money via phone calls. I say ban all the phone in programmes. - Up the Revolution M8s
