Default General Questions.

Hi there,

I know I've been asking a lot of questions, and I do apologize, I just want to make sure I get it right. I was going to go into CB radio once, spent about £400 on equipment and none of it was compatible & I got ripped off..

Now, a couple of weeks ago, I ordered a SkyStar 2 card. I got it, and it turned out to be broken, not to worry though - only £10 lost thus far.

I'll order one now along with my dish (I've decided against using the existing Sky Minidish).

I've decided to go for a motorized setup, I want to be able to pick up everything that I possibly can. Here is a google earth picture of my house:

The top of the image is South. The wall on which I would attach the dish has a line across it.

So I'm thinking that I can receive up to about 100Deg West and about 40Deg East (Maybe more?).

So anyway, with the aim of being able to receive anything and everything that I can, what would be the best motorized setup I should purchase (Dish Size, h-H/DisQ, Motor Make/Model).

This seemed pretty good:

Or maybe I could get away with a smaller dish?

Anyway, what are your thoughts? This should be my final post before the plunge

Dont worry about asking questions. We exist on questions.

The wall mount looks a bit suspect to me and you could do better.

Stick will give you some better leads I am sure.

As jimdefruit mentioned, the wall mount is cr*p for a motorised system. When you put a motor and the "weighs a ton" solid steel dish that they are trying to flog on it, it will flex as you go from east to west. Hence you dish will not follow the arc  correctly..
I, like somebody else on this board, would not touch that firm with a bargepole.
If you want a solid mounting for you dish and motor use "T&K" brackets with a length of steel scaffold pole between them.
BTW, waste of effort trying to go further than about 70 degrees either side of south because the satellites are then below the horizone.

Okay, I'll wait for STICK to come on then.

I didn't realise that you can't go any further than 70 Degrees east or west, and thinking about it, With the position of my house how it is, I should be able to pick up everything.

I was thinking that those mounts looked rather weak, hopefully stick will give me some advice in that direction.

Thanks Anyway.

something like this on ebay 320065754000 would be a good choice except the wall mount thats thrown in.

not much to see after 45east/west in the uk as the satellites start to get below the horizon

make sure you mount the dish on some t&k brackets as i know from experience those L shaped brackets are rubbish as i know mine bent so was unusable

I've not seen a kit of parts yet where I rated all the components.

Far better to spend a little more on P+P and individually source the bits you really want. Take your time selecting your hardware a piece at a time and asking endless questions. As long as they're all different and not literally endless of course :roflmao:

We all want to make sure get you the system that best fits your needs, and we're glad to help anyone who's prepared to help themselves.

I think that this would be by killer quality-hobbyist-but-sensibly-priced-entry-level-kit at the moment:

Moteck SG2100A DiSEqC motor (still the best budget motor IMO), Gibertini 1.0m ally dish, Galvanised T&K brackets and steel scaffold pole (2" dia. min.), Invacom 0.3dB LNB, CT100 cable, and whatever DiSEqC 1.2 receiver you fancy - the Skystar2 will do that job admirably.

Brymar are a company that you don't hear too many complaints about. They have a good range of kit at sensible prices. No, I'm not on commission :mega:

I've not used them myself

I had a wall mount from wizard, Its ok for a static dish but you will have a game and a half getting it straight enough for a motorised system

My mount fitted as best i can get it still has about a 15 degree off vertical angle facing towards the wall of my house. The mount was utter crap and badly made. It would be no use at all for a motorised system.

Go for something like

T & K bracket ebay# 260091493101

Motorised system ebay #230101139240

Its cheaper than Wizard and its probably a better quality dish

I bought my 12" galvanised T+K brackets from TLC-direct for £8.

You shouldn't use an alloy mast either. A properly tightened motor assembly will easily crush that like a rolled-out sausage of play-dough

The motor/dish kit looks alright, but the motor shown isn't the Moteck. Make sure you know what you're buying.

Still have the 2" Galv pipe my dishes are still attatched to. Won't need it once the 90cm dish comes off

The 80cm dishes i have should sit ok on the bottom part (original Televes mount) thats not been used at the moment
