Default Re: more than 4 lnbs

It's becoming a popular topic, as the price of LNBs comes down and the variety and number of 'hot' satellite orbital locations increases.

Unfortunately, the basic DiSEqC options in most receivers limit you to four LNBs. You could double that if you were prepared to introduce and AB switch and a second receiver, but that's a pretty ugly solution.

The best way to go about it is to 'stack' two DiSEqC switches one logically in front of the other, giving you 4x4 (max) = 16 or 2x4 = 8.

The problem comes in sending switching instructions to the switch furthest from the receiver, as the switch closest thinks that the receiver is talking to it!

The way around it is to employ a special 'uncommitted' switch closest to the receiver, which will correctly interpret a pair of instructions, one for it, and one for the next switch down the line.

The next obstacle is finding a suitable receiver that will allow you to configure those commands in the first place. Most receivers just give you the basic four options.

Both the Dreambox and the Skystar (with suitable software) allow it, as do one or two others (but I can't remember which they are!)

Have a look/search in the Dreambox section for info on these switches/setups. The Dreambox will in fact allow configuration of 4x4x4 = 64 LNBs
