Default Channel 5 is 10 years old this month!



March 30th 1997 saw the launch of the fifth national terrestrial station.

I ran across this pre launch promo on youtube which was transmitted in the weeks before the channel launched. Many of the shows must have been pretty poor - I dont think any of them are still on air!

I worked with a very talented assembler programmer who gave up his very well paid job to become a Channel Five TV re-tuning guy on about £10k a year with no long-term prospects.

Strange world...

Maybe he was the sort of person who wanted to annoy other people by tuning their tvs into pure drivel ?

They interfered with the Channel 36 from video recorders, but I altered the output of mine all those years ago and never had any problems.
