Premiere CEO Georg Kofler announced Thursday, the German Pay-TV operator will be taking on the fledgling competition from Stargate/SES’s Entavio basic encryption and subscription tv service.
“Indeed, we are thinking about an expanded satellite offer from Premiere. There are a growing number of digital channels that are available on cable, but not yet on satellite”. Unlike Premiere’s current offering which is aimed at providing exclusive and premium content, Premiere will act as a mere distributor. “Not exclusivity, but quantity will be the focus”, according to Premiere’s CEO. The new package should provide an low-cost entry into pay-TV and gain Premiere a wider client base. And fight-off new entrant Stargate, which is looking to launch a similar service based on SES Astra’s encryption, billing and transmission platform Entavio.
