Default Hotbird on a sky minidish

Hello. I have a little problem. My Wife! right. I have moved into a house and it already has a mini dish. i need to connect to hotbird so my wife can watch her beloved jstv. jstv recomends a 80cm dish but being lazy could i just move the minidish slightly and use that?
Thanks.

Probably yes - 13E is now fully occupied by high power satellites.

Excellent news. Now I just need to see if any of my neighbours has got a ladder i can borrow. Is there anything else you think i should know or do when DIY realigning with no equipment?

Hi JediBUZ, welcome to the site mate

Your minidish should be OK from the UK although you may experience some picture break up during heavy rain. I live in North West England and my old minidish is OK on Hotbird for the majority of the time, in fact it might be OK all the time now that they've taken Hotbird 2 out of commission and transfered over to Hotbird 8

take a small tv and reciever outside to watch

also you will need to alter the elevation of the dish as it will point higher in the sky and maybe adjust the skew of the lnb ( should be a screw underneath to adjust on some)

might be worth replacing with a zone 2 dish to quarantee reception but should be fine now that hotbird 8 has taken channels from hotbird 2

If it where my house i'd pay for a satman to come and fit a big dish. But as it's rented accom I'd ideally like to just keep the mini dish that was all ready there. As the dish and cabling is already in place i'll have to settle with moving it then relying on someone to tell me if there is a picture. Wasn't counting on elevation to be different. Anyway I really appreciate the advise guys.

OK had a thought. My house is 3 story house. My living room is on the 1st floor and it has french windows with not a balcony as such but has the railings. Is there a nice light weight dish around 70-80cm that i could just clamp to the railings? Or sticking a post in the front lawn and putting a dish on that?

Metronic do a clear plastic dish at both 60cms and 85cms. If you can find a suitable clamping point on your railings (or your post in the ground) - about 2" diameter (short scaffold pole is perfect) - then you're away.

Type 'Metronic clear' into Google, and you'll find a few suppliers.

The Sky minidish could well do it though.

Hope this helps.

I'll let you know how it goes. I have my boss coming round at 5:15 with some ladders and a sat finder. Cheers all.

Yay! It went OK. When my wife returns from work tonight she'll able to watch JSTV. The signal strength is 76% but the picture seems fine. I suppose when it rains will be the real test. Thanks again to everyone.
