Virgin Media is to break broadband speed limits later this year, by doubling the speed of its flagship 'XL' cable broadband service, from 10Mbp/s (megabits per second) to up to 20Mb/ps.
The 100% speed increase will mean an MP3 music track could be downloaded in around two seconds* and will make the XL broadband service the fastest (widely available) home internet connection in Britain. Bandwidth boosting will take place from May and will coincide with a small price increase on the fastest broadband service, from £35 to £37 per month. Upstream speed will also be increased, to 768Kb, and all Virgin broadband services will continue to offer unlimited downloads and an online security package. Ernie Cormier, chief commercial officer of Virgin Media, said: "We want to make entertainment and communications the simple and exciting world it should be, but our technology also means we can offer an ultra-fast broadband service that our competitors can't match. "For internet savvy customers who want the best broadband money can buy, our XL service is perfect for speedy downloading and uploading - whether it's music, videos, podcasts or blogs."

Hmmm Stick, you aren't going commercial on us are you??
![]() My foray into fta and this general forum has been prompted by the stupidity that has been going on between sky and the bearded tit > both of them!! whilst i welcome the apparent offer of broader broadband the fact is that the delivery c@bling is still not up to the promise and will not be generally available for some time, ensure that your immediate local service is actually active before you upgrade. remember that there are liars, damned liars and politicitians. ![]() regarding the supposed online security package, never rely on an outside service for your online protection, caveat emptor 8) ![]() wobblywill

Any news on whether they are going to upgrade the 4 meg to 10 meg? There was a rumour going round on a few forums that that would be the case.

Had official confirmation from vm today that 4 meg is being upped to 10 meg from May. Rang to cancel TV contract due to the sky row and they offered me the XL package for 10 per month so I snatched their hand off as I had no intention of cancelling just trying to see what I could get.

Lol... I left VM recently, back when it was still NTL. I used to call them once a month and have the price reduced.. funny as french fried. (Add a the there if you wish).
I called them today after being 'inspired' by this post, there installing the Size M TV Package and the Size M Phone for a fiver a month - unbeatable.
