Default Mother Nature is a Cruel Mistress.

Yesterday, a local sat company delivered my dish/motor mounts e.t.c. I was chuffed that it all arrived (working). At 10 O'Clock I got on the ladder (I have a profound fear of heights, and my house is very high off the ground) and with much help from friends and not looking down I got the dish up. I went in with the Sky Star 2 card and I found I'd allinged it completely wrong. I went up the ladder again and adjusted, back to the sky star card and it was slightly off, and back once again to the ladder I went. This time it worked, and I had it spot on. It tracked the arc PERFECTLY, I was getting 40 East to 40 West (approx). I started playing with softcams and whatnot and before I knew it, it was dark. Too dark, I thought, to go back outside and tighten the dish & put some filler around the cable (Which was loose in my wall). I went downstairs & was gaming against mates on the PS2 (over the net) until about 10pm when I retreated to bed. By this time the wind was really howling and I flicked on the weather & the wind was meant to get worse. I couldn't go outside and tighten my dish because it was really windy and I was alone... I prayed to all the gods that the wind wouldn't get stronger and went to bed...

About 1am there was a loud crash. I didn't want to look.. I went into the room nearest the dish (and with the PC/SkyStar2 in). The computer was on the floor (the cable wasn't secured and pulled it) with a cracked case [The SkyStar2 card was also ripped out (the case was open and the card wasn't screwed in) and was tight against the wall (probably stillworks] and I looked out the window and saw a snapped motor and a shattered dish with the lnb swinging in the wind from the cable. It was like a really crap horror movie.

I've definetly learnt a lesson from this... I might buy a new dish & motor and try again (it shouldn't be too hard as the brackets and everything are still up)

Ach well. It was fun while it lasted. Anyone want a broken dish?

That's a real ****er that is Gav. Don't let it put you off though mate, go and buy another dish and motor and set it all up again

I lost a dish last december, although it was salvagable which was lucky but never the less its still a horrible feeling when you hear that horrible clattering sound as your dish slaps against your next door neighbours fence after leaving a trail of destruction as it makes its way up the garden

Keep at it mate

I don't think he had finished tightening the dish up mate :?

Its an easy mistake if not an expensive one to make when you get caught up in a good bit of PS2 gaming

Bl**dy Nora, that's a bummer

You have to try again, or it'll always haunt you.

Let's see some pics - maybe there's something we can suggest :'(

Hope your PC's alright. I guess that's the main thing. Maybe the fact that the case was off and the card pulled out saved it from total destruction.
