You've probably read about the Dreambox 600 here:
http://www.satellitehelp.co.uk/porta...ent/view/95/2/ ![]() From an operating or learning-curve perspective, there's no advantage in starting with a 500 or 600. The only benefits these STBs have over their larger brothers are cost and size. The Dreambox 7020 is the one to go for as it has more memory and connectivity. Linux isn't tough for a tech-savvy person. You can use it at many levels. If you can drive an FTP client and have both common sense and patience, then with some help it's not a problem. You have to want to learn it though. The Dreambox is the ultimate satellite receiver. It may not beat every other receiver in every department, but overall it's still #1

Dont be put off by the 'FTP Client' bit.
![]() It has software that operates just like 'windoze explorer' so if you can use that then the dreambox will be a doddle.

on the dreambox can you modify the channel list so that the channels are listed in the bouquets so you for say astra 1 you'd have premiere, digital+, etc and then all fta channels ?
how many channels can it store ? as the vantage will do 10,000 and blind scan do they have ci slots and card slots anything else to tempt me ? as i was going to buy a vantage receiver because of the blind scan but these now tempting

The number of channels is only limited by memory. So for all purposes the number of channels is unlimited.
You can make up bouquets of channels however you wish. Bouquet 'any name' all the sports channels, bouquet 'another name' all the film channels, bouquet 'yet another name' all the pron channels. Then you can have any number of bouquets with any mix of channels you want.

And yes, CI slots and card slots should you need them.
Not the best blind-scan receiver though. Not even close.
